A mother who received a botched Botox treatment nearly kill3d herself and her two young kids when she experienced double vision behind the wheel following the injections.

On Monday’s edition of This Morning, presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley hosted a segment about the fake treatments currently being offered – and their dangers.

They were joined on the daytime programme’s sofa by three women who have all been affected from the procedures.

Opening the segment, the hosts told viewers how of 2,000 were surveyed, 15% had to attend hospital following their anti-wrinkle injections, many of which turned out to be counterfeit product.

Half of them took place in non-clinical settings and half required some kind of medical assistance afterwards, the shocking findings revealed.

Ben, 50, and Cat, 48, then introduced Nicola, Lyndsey and Kayleigh to the show to speak about their own horror stories.

However, they were left visibly stunned when mum-of-two Kayleigh revealed she experienced double vision while driving her car with her two kids on board.

She explained: ‘I went to a hair salon, it was my fourth time going to her when something went wrong.

‘I felt like she was rushing, stabbing me in the head with the needle. Really rough. I was driving my son and had my baby in the back when I had double vision. I could see two buses in front of me.

‘Then I had really bad vertigo, felt dizzy. I couldn’t open my eye, I thought I was going to go blind. I went for a CT scan at hospital, which came back alright. I was treated with antibiotics for meningitis.’

Kayleigh then told how they had actually injected into the wrong muscle, which resulted in her eye drooping.

She continued: ‘They sent us home hoping I would get better, but it got worse. I went back a week later after the worst week of my life.

‘I went to an eye infirmary who sent me to hospital. I’ve had an eye patch for five weeks, I’m waiting for my nerves to regenerate. I’d rather have my eyesight than some lines on my face.’

Recalling her experience, Lyndsey said: ‘The ‘Botox’ kicked in straight away, within hours. (Should take 10 days). Recommended by someone who said she was really good.

‘I got mine on Sunday, by Thursday I was getting headaches, they got worse and worse. By the Wednesday I was gasping for breath and had no energy. It was botulism. There were a few girls there with the same thing.

‘I don’t think they know a lot about it, it’s rare. Six weeks later I’m still exhausted and a struggling to swallow food.’

Natasha added: ‘I was exhausted, had a drooping eye, it was difficult to swallow food. I’d been diagnosed with different things but I saw a social media post explaining botulism – I had every single symptom. We had to wait for an anti-toxin – they had run out.’

She then urged viewers: ‘Go to someone properly trained.’

After hearing all three women recall their scary experiences, This Morning’s resident doctor Zoe Williams offered her advice.

She said: ‘We expect to see botulism once in our medical career. It’s a type of bacteria that produces a toxin that you can ingest.

‘Because it is now used in these Botox injections… when they’re used properly the risk is almost unheard of. But now it’s unregulated, anyone can get their hands on fake products.’

Dr Zoe continued: ‘Our producers bought two vials from South Korea that aren’t licensed in the UK. We ordered it on WhatsApp, was with us in a few days. There’s been a huge surge in cases – improper technique, wrong setting, unregulated product.

‘You should be having this done by a doctor, nurse or dentist. Ask questions, what is the product, can I see it?’

Botulism is a rare but serious infection caused by a bacterial toxin that attacks the nervous system and is mostly commonly a result of food or wound contamination.

Common symptoms of botulism include difficulty swallowing, muscle weakness, double vision, drooping eyelids, blurry vision, slurred speech, difficulty breathing, and trouble moving the eyes, according to the CDC.

In cases of foodborne botulism, these symptoms of typically begin 12 to 36 hours after the toxin enters the body depending on the level of exposure to the toxin.

If left untreated, the infection can cause muscle weakness, paralysis and in certain cases, death.

Patients who are paralyzed need to relearn how to walk, talk, and perform everyday tasks.
