Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden and Chris Appleton’s genuine feelings towards one another may have been revealed, after a television body language expert identified several significant indicators between the newly-formed celebrity partnership. The Welsh professional dancer and celebrity hairstylist were matched during the launch of the latest series, offering audiences their initial look at the pairing ahead of the competition’s official commencement.
Body language and behaviour specialist Judi James has now examined Amy and Chris’ exchanges and suggests their conduct could already be disclosing considerable insight into their working relationship. In conversation with Paddy Power, Judi noted there seemed to be a “very strong fit” between the duo, highlighting how they reflected each other’s movements throughout their interview following the announcement of their partnership. She remarked: “This looks like a very strong fit with mirroring between the pair that continued after their interview.”

“Their energy matched during their chat and the fact that they turned to speak straight to each other rather than looking at Emma suggests they are already locking into a place where they put each other first in terms of attention.”
Judi additionally observed the couple’s synchronised facial expressions, indicating their rapport demonstrated evidence of shared understanding. “Their smiles match to show a like-minded approach and the power balance looks good,” she stated.
She also noted that Amy seemed to adopt a commanding presence during her exchanges with Chris, with the professional dancer’s facial expressions eliciting a particular reaction from her celebrity partner.

“When Amy spoke to Chris her brows raised and her eyes widened in an expression of authority and he responded with an expressional echo that showed he was happy to do as he is told by her,” Judi added.
Amy, who hails from Caerphilly, is amongst Strictly’s returning professional dancers and has featured on the BBC programme since 2017. She has previously partnered with celebrities including Brian Conley, JJ Chalmers and Tom Fletcher, making it to the final with Karim Zeroual in 2019.

She rejoined the show full-time last year following treatment for breast cancer. Her new celebrity partner Chris is recognised for his work as a celebrity hair stylist, having styled stars including Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Ariana Grande.
The duo’s partnership was formally unveiled during Saturday’s launch show, when Strictly introduced a fresh approach to pairing the celebrities and professionals.
Instead of merely announcing the couples, the stars participated in a sequence of group dances, swapping partners until the music ceased and revealing who they would be matched with for the series.
The launch show offered audiences an initial peek at the fresh pairings and the spark between each couple, though Amy and Chris are yet to step onto the ballroom floor together for their opening competitive performance.
The first live episode of the series is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, when all 15 couples will take to the floor for the very first time.
