Good Morning Britain star James Gooderson has announced he is quitting the show. He revealed he is set to leave ITV altogether, having secured a brand new position in the United States. James made his first appearance on ITV three years ago and has since featured across ITV News and ITVX, as well as on GMB.
In a post on LinkedIn, he said: “After a fantastic 3 years at ITV and ITV News, I’ve joined Feature Story News as a Washington Correspondent. I’ll be working out of the DC office, covering President Trump and the latest political news on Capitol Hill for a number of international news clients. Alongside reporting in Washington, I’ll also be reporting across the US ahead of the midterms. Can’t wait to get started!”
Last week, presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid paid tribute to Stuart Earl, who worked as a director on GMB for ten years, as they announced his exit live on air.
Susanna said: “We just want to, before we go, say a huge goodbye to our amazing director, Stuart. He’s getting on his motorbike and he’s off, he’s going to be riding over some mountains somewhere. But he’s been with us for ten years and we are grateful for every minute. Stuart, thank you. Good luck, goodbye.”
Ed agreed: “Stuart, you are a total genius. You have been so brilliant. You support us so much, thank you very, very much.”
Good Morning Britain, alongside numerous other ITV programmes, has faced significant budget reductions since the end of 2025. In January, GMB relocated from Television Centre to more compact studio facilities, accompanied by Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women.
Lorraine Kelly’s show was reduced from one hour to 30 minutes, and now broadcasts for only 30 weeks annually rather than 52.
Susanna Reid, Ed Balls, Kate Garraway, Ranvir Singh and Richard Madeley have maintained their regular rotating positions as presenters of Good Morning Britain. Meanwhile, Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard have remained at the helm of This Morning, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary filling in as relief hosts.
