Meghan Markle made a heartfelt admission when she travelled to Australia earlier this year. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex headed Down Under to the east coast for a four-day trip back in April. Speaking in Melbourne about the harms of social media, alongside Prince Harry, Meghan said she was “bullied” every day for a decade and that tech companies were “not incentivised to stop” their platforms being misused.
Journalist Bryony Gordon, who has met the Duchess of Sussex on several occasions, and considers her a friend made a heartbreaking admission during a live broadcast. The debate unfolded on This Morning in April following fresh comments from the Duchess of Sussex, who claimed she had been “bullied and attacked” online for a decade and described herself as “the most trolled person in the world”.
In the unearthed footage, the journalist recalled her own interactions with the duchess, and said the 44-year-old bore “no resemblance” to the “villain” portrayed online.

“Back in 2018, I spent a lot of time with Meghan,” Bryony remarked, “and she was crying on me because of what she was experiencing.”
She continued: “People often say to me, ‘What are they like in real life?’ And I’m like, ‘they’re really nice. They’re normal people.'”
Bryony has been a close friend and vocal defender of Meghan since the two met during the Heads Together mental health campaign in 2018.
The journalist shared Meghan’s three-word comment during a candid conversation with the duchess, where she stated: “I’m not deluded.”
Bryony revealed: “What Meghan said to me once is, ‘I don’t expect everyone to like me. I’m not deluded. I don’t want everyone to like me. But there is an element of just be polite.'”
Her comments came after the couple were in Australia on a four-day tour as non-working royals and used a meeting with representatives of a mental health programme to voice their support for the country’s under-16 social media ban.
The event that Meghan and Prince Harry took part in was at Melbourne’s Swinburne University of Technology.
During the sit-down chat, Meghan told the group: “When I think of all of you and what you’re experiencing, I think so much of that is having to realise that you know that industry, that billion-dollar industry, that is completely anchored and predicated on cruelty to get clicks – that’s not going to change.
“So you have to be stronger than that.”
