Nationwide — Kala Hayes, the mother of Karmelo Anthony, the Black teen charged with m::rder in a fatal school track meet stabbing in Frisco, Texas, has spoken publicly for the first time. She said her family has faced threats and harassment since the incident and called for a fair investigation.

Anthony, a student at Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested after 17-year-old Austin Metcalf of Frisco Memorial High School was stabbed on April 2. Police said the stabbing happened during an altercation in the stadium bleachers.Có thể là hình ảnh về ‎7 người, mọi người đang chơi bóng bầu dục và ‎văn bản cho biết '‎VAS ח CARDINALS‎'‎‎

According to witnesses, Metcalf asked Anthony to leave a team tent. Anthony allegedly warned him not to touch him. When Metcalf grabbed him, Anthony pulled out a knife and stabbed him once in the chest. He later told police he acted in self-defense.

Anthony was initially held on a $1 million bond, but it was reduced to $250,000. He is now under house arrest.

At a press briefing in Dallas, Anthony’s mother, Kala Hayes, said her family has been harassed since the incident. She said they have been receiving d3ath threats and her husband had to leave work due to safety concerns.

“In the wake of this tragic incident, our family has been under attack,” Hayes told ABC News. “Whatever you think what happened… my three younger children, my husband and I didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed and lied about.”

The press event was organized by the Next Generation Action Network, a social justice group supporting the family. The group denied rumors that donation funds were spent on luxury items, saying the family hasn’t received any of the money.

Anthony may face expulsion from school before his graduation. Frisco ISD said it follows standard procedures for students charged with serious crimes, including a hearing before making final decisions.

Hayes said the family believes in the legal process and asked for patience and prayers as the case moves forward.
