The statement reads: “Today we mark Social Media Harms Remembrance Day. This day was designated in 2024 by a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. Senate to commemorate the lives of young people who have lost their lives due to online harm. The day was put forward by several members of The Parents’ Network – the families of Carson Bride, Alexander Neville, and Devin Norring, three young people who tragically lost their lives in connection to harm on social media platforms.”
The statement further read: “The Archewell Foundation recognizes the young people who have suffered harm on social media and commends the families and activists who are fighting for safer and more accountable online spaces.”

The Archewell statement added: “Today, families and activists gathered in Washington D.C. to honor the lives of 245 young people who have lost their lives.
“We are proud of the members of The Parents’ Network, who continue to come together as a community to support one another and ensure that no child is lost to social media.”
In tribute, US senator, Amy Klobuchar, has posted on X: “For too long, social media companies have turned a blind eye when young children join their platforms. On Social Media Victims Remembrance day, we remember all the kids we have lost and recommit ourselves to passing legislation to keep kids safe online.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex unveiled an installation which exhibited 50 smartphones with the lock screen photo of a child who died as a result of online harassment.
Speaking about The Parents’ Network, created in partnership with Archewell, Meghan wrote on social media: “No matter how divided the world may be, we can all agree that we want our children to be safe from harm. That is a universal truth.
If you choose to be on social media, let’s be the example for our youth, sharing goodness and kindness and positivity. Let’s tell our children that they are enough, and that this life is worth living. And let’s ensure that no child is lost to social media.”
