Dolphins put their trust in Aaron Brewer – The Iron Shield protecting Tua Tagovailoa
The Miami Dolphins’ offensive line may quietly be one of the team’s most important position groups in 2025. With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history, protecting him is the top priority for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins’ offensive line will have a lot of new faces in 2025, which means the communication up front will be key.
“I think communication is the biggest thing first,” center Aaron Brewer said (h/t MiamiHerald). “First, I like to just learn each other on and off the field, how we operate, how we go about situations. I feel like communication is the first big thing to understanding how we operate on the field.”
Brewer will be entering his second season with the Dolphins after spending four years with the Tennessee Titans. Brewer has played center and guard during his five-year NFL career, and 2025 will be the first year the veteran lineman will play at the same position for a third consecutive season.
It’s also the first time since high school that Brewer will have the luxury of playing in the same position along the offensive line for multiple years in a row. However, three of the four guys around Brewer will be new.
The Dolphins signed James Daniels in free agency to be the new left guard, drafted Jonah Savaiinaea in the 2025 NFL Draft to be the new right guard, and 2024 NFL Draft pick Patrick Paul will step in at left tackle following the retirement of Terron Armstead.
“It’s our team so you work with what you got,” Brewer said. “Whoever is next to me, whoever we’re playing with, the sky is the limit for me with anybody. We could have a group full of rookies and the sky is the limit. I’m trying to come in and be great.”
Brewer is confident in himself and the guys around him. But that confidence stems from his mindset of getting to know each other and building relationships that translate to the football field.
Even if guys are shy or uncomfortable, Brewer is taking on the leadership role of bringing the Dolphins’ offensive line unit together to create success in 2025.
“That’s something I’m very focused on with everything we’re doing. Even when some guys are uncomfortable with talking to people or just having that icebreaker conversation or having an uncomfortable conversation; I’m trying to be very intentional about everything getting guys closer together so we have that bond and that connection as soon as possible,” Brewer said. “That’s what we need to be successful – that brotherhood, that community, we have to be there together.”

Brewer is the veteran leader on this Dolphins’ offensive line, the familiar face with experience in the league. He’s played in 75 games in his career and started every game for the last three seasons.
Brewer made an emphasis to build a relationship with rookie Savaiinaea, who will be blocking on Brewer’s right hip immediately.
“As soon as he got drafted, I reached out to him, talked to him and let him know I’m excited to work with him,” Brewer said of the rookie guard. “As soon as he gets here, I’m just trying to get him that mentality and get him to the standard ASAP because the future is going to be so bright for him.”
Brewer ranked as the seventh-best center according to PFF in 2024. The Dolphins have their leader up front, and it could be one of the most important factors for the offense in 2025, because everything rides on Tagovailoa’s ability to stay upright.
