Meghan Markle did not show up at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games countdown event because it would not have been good for her brand, a leading royal author has claimed. Robert Jobson savaged the Duchess of Sussex after she did not appear at the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham last Friday (July 10).
The Duchess was due to attend the event, but did not after a decision by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee not to provide taxpayer-funded security for the Sussexes during their UK visit. In the same week, Harry lost a High Court legal battle against Associated Newspapers Ltd over unproven allegations of unlawful information gathering.

Bronte Coy, senior entertainment reporter at news.com.au, told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive podcast that as Harry appeared on stage in Birmingham he would have been “so rattled” knowing he had lost his legal battle.
She said: “It would have been a good opportunity for [Meghan] to be there with him as that was happening. He cut a very solitary figure in the middle of all this drama unfolding. I just thought, maybe she should have been there for that then.”
Jobson said in response: “She never does. She never supports, like it’s not good for her brand being next to someone who’s just lost.”
To which Coy agreed, adding: “But as a husband and wife, I was thinking it would have been nice for her [to be there].”
Meghan has appeared by her husband’s side at multiple events, for the Invictus Games and on various other occasions. Recently, the couple visited Australia where they met survivors of the Bondi Beach attack and visited the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

The Sussexes trip to Britain was widely discussed by Jobson and Coy, including the private meeting between King Charles, Queen Camilla, Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Charles was reunited with his grandchildren at Highgrove House in a visit which was confirmed by Buckingham Palace on Friday evening and not by the Sussexes’ team.
Jobson said the one most significant aspect of the meeting was Queen Camilla’s attendance. He said despite Harry’s criticism of her in his memoir, Spare, Camilla turned up to support the King.
He added: “She was also there to witness what was said… because, you know, Meghan and Harry have got a tendency to try and get their own way and what they need.”
The commentator claimed: “With Camilla there it would have been very difficult for them to push the King – [who is] a very kind, gentle man – into a corner… She was there to protect the King.”
Jobson said the focus would also have been on Archie and Lilibet, which he suggested would have made the meeting much easier as certain family squabbles would have remained unsaid.
