Pete Carroll is now headed from the classroom back to an NFL sideline after the Las Vegas Raiders hired him to fill the vacancy for their top job.
According to Adam Schefter, Carroll’s contract with the Raiders is three years, with a team option for the fourth year.
Carroll, who turns 74 in September, is the oldest coach in modern NFL history.
Despite what his job will entail, Carroll has zero plans of getting rid of his part-time job.
Carroll has been holding onto a part-time job teaching a class at USC, and he plans to continue that job even with his new head coaching job.
He was scheduled to teach a leadership course in the Spring semester with students like basketball star JuJu Watkins and recent five-star defensive line signee Jahkeem Stewart.
“Pete Carroll will continue co-teaching his class at USC, Game is Life, despite being hired as the Las Vegas Raiders head coach, the university tells @latimes,” Kartje wrote.
Many assumed that meant his new teaching job would be put on hold, but he is making it clear that nothing can stop him at his advanced age.
Carroll was out of football last season, and many thought he had retired from coaching after 40 years in the NFL.
Could Russell Wilson Join Pete Carroll In Las Vegas?
Coming into the 2025 offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders needed a head coach and a quarterback.
They have found both with just one hiring.
After Pete Carroll reportedly agreed to a contract to be the next head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported that former Seahawks and current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is a “name to watch” who might head to Sin City.
Howe further added that Wilson and Carroll have “mended fences.”
Wilson was Seattle’s quarterback for 10 seasons, all of which came under Pete Carroll.
He could very well serve a purpose as a quarterback as the team works to find their young QB of the future.
