Fresh controversy has surrounded Meghan Markle’s upcoming appearance on MasterChef Australia after reports claimed judge Poh Ling Yeow was left upset following the Duchess’s introduction as “royalty”. But while the headlines have centred on the alleged backstage drama, celebrity chef Jameson Stocks believes the bigger issue is something else entirely.

According to the Michelin-trained chef, Meghan should never have been invited onto the programme in the first place. Jameson, who has cooked for King Charles and works closely with The King’s Trust, didn’t hold back when asked whether Meghan’s food credentials alone would have earned her a place on one of television’s biggest cooking competitions.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Express, he said: “In truth, I think the people who are running MasterChef in Australia have completely sold out.

He added, “I think it’s a disgrace. The viewing figures will drop off once her segment is on – people don’t care about her opinions on food when her lack of knowledge of food is pretty evident from her own show.”

“MasterChef has always been a beacon for showcasing great talent. I would be embarrassed.”

The chef was equally dismissive when asked whether Meghan deserved a place on the programme based on her culinary experience.

“She is only considered to be on MasterChef because of her status,” he said. “The producers know that the press will write about her and that her presence will attract viewers. They might as well put a mannequin on the show, given how little food knowledge she appears to have.”

Stocks believes programmes such as MasterChef should champion aspiring chefs rather than celebrity headlines.

“MasterChef should inspire the next generation, encouraging people to step outside their comfort zones and create great food. She is about as inspirational as an out-of-date chicken.”

The criticism comes as Meghan continues to position herself as a food and lifestyle entrepreneur following the launch of her Netflix cooking series and her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

When asked whether the Duchess can realistically separate herself from her royal identity, Stocks was equally blunt. “But does she really want to distance herself from her royal title? She’s just Meghan, the Z-list actress, without it.”

The chef also questioned whether Meghan has done enough to establish herself as a credible figure within the culinary world.

“She may aspire to be recognised as a food and lifestyle entrepreneur, but although American networks have provided an incredible platform for building something successful, her television programme was a complete flop.”

He continued: “I knew it was going to fail within the first ten minutes. It’s astonishing that she was paid so much for such a waste of time.”

Stocks also criticised Meghan’s lifestyle products, saying: “Her lifestyle products are overpriced and feel like a complete rip-off, yet people continue to support the project.” Perhaps his most cutting remark came when discussing Meghan’s future in the food industry.

“Honestly, it feels like caring for a dying dog while everyone remains polite and quietly awaits the inevitable sad news.”

He concluded: “People need to get a grip and bring genuinely talented individuals to these networks. She will never earn credibility within the catering industry because she simply lacks the necessary knowledge.”
