Stephen Dixon has been forced to step back from GB News. Confirming that the journalist was on sick leave, Stephen’s husband, Daniel, shared an update on his behalf over the weekend.

“As many know, Stephen has lived with T1 diabetes since the age of 17. He’s been a workaholic for 35 years, spending 25+ of them on the 3am–10am shift, but he has finally crashed,” Daniel announced on Saturday (15 August). “For the first time ever at 50, he’s on his first sick note. GB News has been incredibly supportive. He just needs a bit of time to get through this and will be back next week.”

Stephen, who is one of many anchors filling in for Eamonn Holmes, often presents alongside Ellie Costello. An open book when it comes to his health, the TV star has spoken publicly about living with type 1 diabetes. Writing about his experiences in an article for GB News, Stephen noted that he uses an insulin pump while maintaining a strict diet.

“As much as my specialists’ marvel at how well controlled I am and, to be honest, heap praise on me when I’m being checked out, 31 years in and I AM TIRED,” Stephen reflected. “It is a constant drain. Always checking, always monitoring, always calculating. Sometimes it does just get you down.

“Sometimes I would just love a pizza without worrying that I’m going to feel ill for 24 hours after, I’d love to indulge over Christmas without the same concerns. Or I’d like to go for a walk, or a swim without worrying that my glucose levels will crash through the floor making me feel like I’m about to peg out.”

Stephen added that while he has a “very positive outlook” as a type 1 diabetic, he’s always got “101 things” on his mind, which includes “trying to work out how to both BE well and FEEL well.”
