BBC Radio 1 host Greg James and his wife, Bella Mackie, 43, have hit back after their latest post sparked outrage. The pair announced the sad news that their beloved dog Barney had to be put down, with the presenter, 40, posting a tribute on Instagram.
The beloved dog was a star in his own right, with his own segment on Greg’s show, Barney, Are You There?! Posting on social media, Greg had told fans he was “completely floored” following Barney’s de@th and that he “can’t stop crying”.
“I know how loved this unbelievably daft, farty, brilliant dog was, and I adored sharing him with everyone on here. I can’t believe our little mate has gone and it’s very real and very raw. He was the best.”
He then asked fans to give him and his wife, author Bella Mackie, some privacy as they grieved. But his wife Bella was hit with backlash as just days later, she shared a promo post her new book, Claws Out!, which is scheduled to be released on August 27.
She penned: “First review is in! It’s some very welcome good news at a very sad time…”
Replying to the post, one person wrote: “Too soon before your pup d!ed!!”, leading Bella to reply bluntly: “F**k you.” Greg also responded to the troll, adding: “Our grief and how we deal with it is absolutely nothing to do with you. Or more simply put, what Bella just said.”
Bella then shared a screenshot of the comment directed at her, as she said: “Gave me an odd moment of dark comedy actually so thanks for your deranged message I guess?”
Fans rushed to support her, as one asked: “Who are you telling someone what they can and can’t do while grieving?”
Another added: “She’s literally crying in her story talking about it. People still have to work and get on with life too. Even if it’s s****y.”
