‘Blatant Hypocrisy!’ Harry and Meghan’s ‘Rival Royal Plan’ Slammed
Piers Morgan has launched a fresh attack on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, accusing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of “stinking hypocrisy” as questions continue over their status following their return to Britain.
Speaking on The Royals Uncensored, Morgan argued that Harry and Meghan risk creating what he described as a “rival royal family” now that they are once again based in the UK.
His criticism centred on reports that the Sussexes prefer to be described as “public figures” rather than “private citizens”, despite stepping away from senior royal duties in 2020.
Morgan said the contradiction was impossible to ignore.
“They couldn’t have their royal cake and eat it,” he said, accusing the couple of wanting the status associated with royalty without accepting the responsibilities that come with working royal life.
Morgan Questions Sussexes’ ‘Public Figures’ Position
The broadcaster highlighted what he sees as the irony of Harry and Meghan objecting to being described as private citizens after previously speaking about the pressures that came with their public royal roles.
Morgan claimed their latest position amounted to a significant reversal.
He also argued that their return could create confusion if they begin carrying out charity appearances and other public engagements while living in Britain but remaining outside the official working monarchy.
That concern has intensified after Harry’s team confirmed a series of upcoming public engagements, including appearances connected to the Invictus Games and the WellChild Awards.
The Duke is expected to take part in the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards and the launch of the Invictus education programme INSPIRE as part of what his team has described as his “September public engagements”.
King Charles Has Drawn a Firm Line
The wider row follows a formal letter sent by the Lord Chamberlain under the direction of King Charles.
The guidance classified Harry and Meghan as private citizens and reiterated that they remain non-working members of the Royal Family.
The Sussexes were reportedly surprised by the letter and are said to prefer the term “public figures”, particularly amid ongoing questions surrounding their security arrangements.
For Morgan, however, the Palace clarification has effectively ended any prospect of a “half-in, half-out” arrangement.
He argued that Harry and Meghan should not expect to operate independently while still benefiting from the impression that they are carrying out royal-style duties.
Critics have already urged the couple to stop behaving like working royals, while others have interpreted the King’s letter simply as a necessary clarification of a status that has not changed since 2020.
Harry’s Return Brings Immediate Scrutiny
Harry’s return to Britain has already generated significant attention.
He and Meghan moved back with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet after years in California, with people close to the couple saying their immediate priority is helping the children settle into school.
A source said the Sussexes are “happy to be back” and that everything else will “fall into place when the time is right”.
But Harry is also preparing to travel back to the United States later this month.
He is expected in New York for the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting on September 22 and 23, only weeks after relocating back to Britain. Meghan and the children are not expected to accompany him.
For Morgan, those developments only add to the bigger question surrounding the Sussexes: how they intend to operate publicly while remaining outside official royal duties.
His “rival royal family” claim remains his own interpretation rather than any position announced by Harry and Meghan.
But with the Palace drawing a clear boundary around their status and Harry preparing a new run of public engagements, the debate over what the Sussexes’ life in Britain will actually look like is unlikely to disappear soon.
