The Chase fans were left ‘screaming at the screen’ as a contestant fumbled a ‘ridiculously easy’ question on a recent episode of the ITV game show.

The repeat instalment, shown earlier this week, saw Justin from Manchester, Reanna from Liverpool, Nicola from Nottingham and Matthew from Leeds take on the game.

They were up against Shaun Wallace AKA The Dark Destroyer as they competed against the expert quizzer in a bid to take home the cash prize.

Justin was first up to the podium, supported by host Bradley Walsh, 65 – but he was soon caught out and eliminated before reaching the final round.

Reanna came next, building up a solid £4,000 during the cash builder quick-fire round – so things were looking good for the contestant.

But the final question she faced – since dubbed ‘ridiculously easy’ by fans – during the main Chase itself saw her taken out too.

Bradley asked her: ‘In legend, how did the basilisk kl its prey?’

He was referring to a serpent-like monster from Greek and Roman mythology which can kl with a stare.

But it was made more famous after it was included in the second Harry Potter book, as the terrifying magical beast living in the titular Chamber of Secrets.

The options Reanna was given were ‘stinging’, ‘shouting’ and ‘staring’.

Sadly, though, she missed the correct answer of ‘staring’ and found herself eliminated from the game.

Viewers took to social media to express their frustration at her missing what could have been an easy win in their eyes.

One said, the Express reports: ‘She’s clearly never watched Harry Potter.’

Another commented, ‘These questions are ridiculous!’, while someone replied: ‘Ridiculously easy? I quite agree.’

‘Nah, I’m screaming, that was easy!’;

‘I guess she didn’t watch Potter!’

But while fans at home felt it was straightforward, even Bradley himself seemed shock to discover that ‘staring’ was the right answer, saying incredulously: ‘Really?’

Elsewhere in the episode, Justin and Reanna’s fellow contestant Matthew also went on to be knocked out in the first round.

This left Nicola to face The Dark Destroyer alone in the final – but she was unfortunately caught by him, with one minute and eight seconds left on the clock.

It comes just after Shaun, usually seen with a rather stony demeanour on The Chase, admitted ‘life has not been easy’ in a rare emotional social media post.

‘But I’m here to tell the tale. I hope I’ve got many more years to come.’

Shaun captioned the post: ‘I’m very grateful for reaching my 65th birthday today.

‘My life has not been easy but I’ve never given up.

‘I’ve worked hard, been persistent and have learnt valuable lessons from the multiple times I have failed.

‘A genuine thank you to all my followers, I will do my best to inspire, motivate and entertain for the rest of my life.

‘Have an amazing day… I intend to.’

Many rushed to the comments section to send him some birthday wishes.
