BREAKING NEWS: Earl Spencer dealt huge blow on live TV in bombshell breaking update
Charles Spencer has been forced to apologise to Piers Morgan over his new memoir, Swan Song.
Earl Spencer has come under fire after incorrectly naming Piers Morgan as the Editor of the Daily Mirror in his bombshell memoir, Swan Song. Bringing GB News to a halt on Tuesday (22 September), journalist Emily Carver announced that Charles Spencer had issued an official apology for the error. Handing over to Cameron Walker, the royal correspondent quickly brought viewers up to speed.
“Earl Spencer’s new memoir on Diana, Princess of Wales, was published today. In that book, he speaks about an incident in 1993 where the Daily Mirror Newspaper published highly sensitive and intrusive photographs of Princess Diana when she was wearing a leotard in a gym,” Walker began, adding that the pictures were deemed “unacceptable” at the time.
“The Mirror was forced to pay £1million in damages, and £200,000 to Diana’s chosen charities,” he continued. “Now, Earl Spencer goes on to say and imply that it was actually Piers Morgan’s responsibility, saying that he was Editor of the Daily Mirror in 1993.”
Pointing out that Morgan had since hit back, Walker referred to a clip from Monday’s episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, in which the host tells Earl Spencer and his publishers that they’ll be hearing from his lawyers. Visibly furious, Morgan stated that he wanted the “complete lie” removed from the memoir and that a donation be made to The King’s Trust for the “damage caused”.
Resuming his report, Walker noted that Morgan had not been working at The Daily Mirror in 1993, but had been working at The Sun. It was only in 1995, two years after the photographs were published, that he joined The Mirror. GB News subsequently gave viewers a glimpse of Spencer’s public apology, which was issued by a spokesperson on his behalf.
It reads: “Earl Spencer’s account of his conversation with Piers Morgan is accurate. Mr Morgan was surly and annoyed when Earl Spencer called personally to tell him that he was not welcome at his sister’s funeral.

“The book then records Earl Spencer’s assumption that Mr Morgan’s response was because he was editor of the Daily Mirror when the Mirror Group had published highly intrusive photographs of Princess Diana at the gym. The photographs were published by the Sunday Mirror on 7 November 1993. Mr Morgan has pointed out that he did not join the Daily Mirror until October 1995.
“As an historian, accuracy is important to Earl Spencer. He therefore wishes to clarify that his assumption was incorrect. Earl Spencer apologises to Mr Morgan for this error.”
Walker reflected that while Spencer may hope to “draw a line” under the error, it’s extremely “tricky” to have an inaccuracy highlighted on the very same day of the book’s publication (22 September).
