The One Show presenter Alex Jones has revealed she was brought to tears after hearing Sara Cox’s moving update regarding her BBC Children in Need challenge.

Radio 2 host Sara is presently tackling a demanding 135-mile run spanning four counties – Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire – in a bid to generate funds for the charity.

She became overwhelmed with emotion on Wednesday (November 12) upon learning that her fundraising efforts had exceeded the one million pound milestone, confessing that she felt “broken”.

Later that evening on The One Show, Alex disclosed how profoundly moved she was whilst listening to Sara on the radio, reports Wales Online.

Whilst discussing the radio presenter’s journey with Angellica Bell, her co-host on the BBC programme, Alex confessed: “We just need to talk about Sara for a minute.”

“Did you hear her on Radio 2 this morning?” enquired the star. “I had to pull over because I was in floods of tears. She is amazing.”

She added: “If you’re watching Sara, good luck, we are so behind you.”

Earlier that day, Sara had chatted with her DJ friend Scott Mills on the radio about her progress with the demanding challenge, which will see her complete the equivalent of five marathons over five days to generate funds.

Scott informed the star about the fundraising progress, leaving Sara in tears as she discovered she had accumulated more than £1,002,869 thus far.

“Oh my God!” she responded, appearing astonished to discover that she had surpassed the million mark. “That is amazing. Thank you. You’ve completely broken me. Everybody who has donated, thank you so much.

“I am so proud of you,” said Scott, who sounded emotional himself as he praised his colleague for what she had managed to achieve.

“I can’t believe it,” Sara admitted as she brushed tears from her eyes. “That is so generous. Thank you so much. Every fiver, every tenner… it all makes a massive difference.”
