The One Show was paused for a d3ath announcement on Thursday as the hosts paid tribute live on air.
Hosts Lauren Laverne and JB Gill were joined on the sofa by guests Beverley Knight, Harlan Coben and Nick Grimshaw, but during the broadcast the pair announced a recipient of the BBC show’s One Big Thank You had sadly passed away.
Strictly star JB shared: ‘Before we introduce you to this week’s star, we unfortunately have some sad news to share.’
Lauren added: ‘Last week, you may remember we thanked Brenda, who raised over £170,000 for research into cancer treatment while dealing with her own cancer diagnosis. And this week, we heard the very sad news that Brenda has died.
‘So on behalf of everyone at The One Show, we want to say to all of Brenda’s family and friends that our thoughts and our love are with you, and we feel very lucky to have been able to celebrate the amazing work that she did.
‘That is what One Big Thank You is all about.’

The segment praises someone who has gone the extra mile to help others in their community, and last week Brenda was honoured on the show for her work hosting sponsored walks, charity balls and more.
Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, and more recently, she was diagnosed with cancer for a second time.
Her friend Nigel explained: ‘The last month has been a real trial for our family, for Brenda and for her friends, really,’ with another friend Tony adding: ‘She’s an amazing lady, she’s just one in a million.’
It comes after The One Show fans raged as they called out an ‘off-putting’ wardrobe blunder during the live show.
Hosts Clara Amfo, 40, and Alex Scott, 40, opened the BBC One programme on Wednesday evening.
Minutes into the show they introduced co-presenter Nikki Fox, 45, and her Watchdog section.
However, some viewers were distracted by the clash between Nikki’s outfit and the Watchdog background.
She wore a red floral dress which happened to be a very similar colour to the bright backdrop shown behind her.

Many took to X to share their thoughts and one posted: ‘#TheOneShow All that background red is too much.’;
‘What’s going on with the colour clashes #TheOneShow.’;
‘#watchdog #bbcwatchdog #theoneshow finding #nikkifox wearing a red dress in front of a red screen quite offputting. Better planning please.’;
‘#TheOneShow who didn’t get the dress colour memo?’;
‘Thank goodness normal colour has resumed #TheOneShow.’
It isn’t the first blunder on The One Show, last week hosts were forced apologise after guest Sally Phillips accidentally let slip a swear word.
The A-list actress, 54, is well known for her appearances in Bridget Jones, Smack the Pony, and Veep. She is also set to star in the new BBC series Austin.
Joining her co-star Ben Miller, 59, the actress appeared on The One Show to talk about their upcoming series.
Discussing their co-star Michael Theo, Sally gushed: ‘He is such a nice person and he had such a thing about feeling that autism was only very narrowly represented on TV so he wanted to reflect that and we consulted him all the way along.’
She continued: ‘He was so great, so truthful and adorable.’

Turning to Ben, the actress said: ‘We did have a word with each other early on, we were like ‘Oh s**t. S**t he’s really good. We’re going to have to raise our game.’
As the story continued, Lauren Laverne quickly realised the mistake and apologised for the slip up.
She said: ‘Now I think speaking of language, and the love of language, we should just apologise for any fruity language. Sorry.’
Looking confused co-host Alex Jones asked: ‘Was it me?’ before Lauren reassured her: ‘No, it wasn’t you!’
Ben and Sally exchanged a look before bursting out into laughter as they realised Sally had dropped an accidental swear word live on air.
