Emmerdale fans reckon they’ve worked out the real reason for Sadie King’s explosive return, after actress Patsy Kensit dropped back into the ITV soap this week in a helicopter. After the death of her ex Jimmy King, Sadie landed a bombshell – telling his wife Nicola that they had been having an affair for the past three years.
However, fans think there is more to it. Some have suggested Sadie could be suffering from early-onset dementia and flashing back to her former romance with Jimmy, conflating the timelines in her head. One Reddit user said: “I thought that maybe she has dementia?”
Another agreed: “Interesting. It would be in keeping with the tendency for the soaps to cover some very similar storylines/issues – within (surprisingly) close proximity to each other. I hope if it is dementia it is at least a different type / origin – maybe Korsakoff syndrome? (Alcohol abuse related).”
Others pointed out that with Coronation Street’s Debbie Webster suffering from early-onset dementia, the same could be happening to Sadie.
One said: “If the show ends up going the dementia route they’re 100% just ripping off of Coronation Street and EastEnders lmao which wouldn’t surprise me because it’s what all soaps do these days, none of them are original in the slightest.”
Another posted: “Dementia was my first thought but in tonight’s ep something happens that ruins the theory a bit – BUT I reckon it could still be possible or she’s got some sort of disease that made Jimmy feel sorry for her and get back in touch?”

And another wrote: “Patsy Kensit teased Sadie’s return ‘with a difference’ I thought it might involve a mystery son or daughter of Cain’s, but perhaps Sadie is mentally ill and believes herself, creating a “boy who cried wolf” storyline where no one realises it or empathises with her.
“Otherwise, the only theory I can think of is that Jimmy has been cheating on Nicola with Sadie. If true, it’s a ridiculous plot with possible flashback scenes. Either way, Sadie has another nemesis in Nicola!”
