‘I will never come back, never’ – Colson Smith LEAVES Coronation Street after 13 years of dedication and a truly heartbreaking ending for the actor!
One Coronation Street actor has refused to return to the ITV soap, ever, saying his time on the show “is done”.
The star in question ruled out any form of a comeback, even in the future, including in ghost form. Colson Smith was axed from his role as Craig Tinker last year, while his final scenes aired on Wednesday night.
PC Craig was killed off in devastating scenes after being brutally beaten with a bat by villain Mick Michaelis. Craig was rushed to hospital during Wednesday’s visit to the cobbles after being left for dead, but sadly he died.
Now, actor Colson has revealed he will never return to the show even if the decision was made to bring Craig back from the dead. A more likely return would be Craig as a ghost or in a flashback, but Colson has ruled out anything that would see him back on the show.
Colson told bosses his time on the show was up and that he would not be coming back in any way in the future. Speaking to The Mirror, he explained of his decision: “I did say I won’t be coming back as a ghost.
“I was like, the day I leave will be the day that I leave.” He went on: “It feels like it’s done. It feels like it’s finished, like I’ve got everything that I’ve got from Coronation Street and thats’ it now.

“So it felt very much like a thank you, goodbye, goodnight type thing, because I know there’s no return for Craig and Colson in the future.” Colson was also glad his character was killed off after learning he would be leaving either way.
He revealed: “I have spoken to people who have left and not been killed and I just feel like, for me, it was 100% the right way to kind of know that I’m not coming back. It was the right thing for me to be killed.
“I didn’t want that we might have you back, knowing that it would be very unlikely, and knowing that it would feel a bit like unfinished business and an unfinished job. So I think Craig dying, and Craig dying in the line of duty as a copper, that kind of hero’s death was by far the most perfect story for the exit.”

On what he hopes to move onto next, Colson fancies himself as a presenter. He explained: “I make no secret that I want to be a presenter, that’s where my love and passion lies at the moment. Ever since starting on the sofa with Jack [P Shepherd] and Ben [Price] and doing bits of TV with the games and Big Brother.
“I enjoy being Colson, and I enjoy telling stories, and I enjoy holding a show and being direct down the lens to camera, but I also enjoy going to work.” Colson does hope to continue acting, but wants a role that isn’t the same as his Corrie alter ego.
He said: “I’m looking forward to playing a character that isn’t Craig like I’m looking forward to getting back into acting and comedy acting, and really being a character and developing something. After 14 years of the same thing, you kind of have a taste for something else.”
