Ginger Zee Welcomed on 1st Day as Weather Editor at ‘GMA’
Thursday, 05 December 2013 07:56 PM EST
Meteorologist Ginger Zee went on air Thursday for her first official day as “Good Morning America” weather editor, taking the place of Sam Champion who moved to The Weather Channel.
Zee had been a weekend meteorologist for “GMA,” but now, as a “GMA” clip welcoming her said, “She’s the new leader of the ABC Extreme Weather team.”
The clip highlighted Zee’s many adventures reporting weather in the field, wading through high waters to reporting from areas devastated by storms.
ABC News put out the Top 10 things to know about Zee, including the fun fact that she’s named after Ginger on “Gilligan’s Island.”
“When her dad moved here from the Netherlands, he watched ‘Gilligan’s Island’ to learn English and Ginger was his favorite character,” ABC said.
Another fact, “she does squats while brushing her teeth,” pulled in an online comment:
But mostly, the beautiful meteorologist was warmly welcomed.
Zee, who grew up watching storms in Michigan, is also a bit of a daredevil, as shown in “GMA”‘s highlight clips. Snippets of skydives, surfing spills, and ziplining showed her “fearless” attitude, “GMA” said.
Beautiful and daring she may be, but Zee won a lot of hearts when the “GMA” team peppered her with questions and she answered, “The article of clothing you can’t live without?”
“Sweatpants,” she said. “I love sweatpants. I want to live in them forever.”
