Good Morning America stars turn down hosting job for ‘toxic’ segment
Good Morning America stars Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan have turned down the opportunity to host the show’s ‘toxic’ third hour.
For Good Morning America executives to get their beloved hosts to take on the “toxic” third-hour slot, they’re going to have to pay the price.
The talk show starts off every weekday morning with a news segment hosted by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, who has been rumored to be planning his departure after finding success on FOX NFL.
Whether or not that’s true, Strahan and the rest of the hosts have made it clear they will not be picking up any more hosting slots without a bigger paycheck.
According to the Daily Mail, an insider revealed the trio has been offered the third hour slot, but they are not interested as they believe the segment is “toxic.”
The hosts allegedly cited issues of pay, prestige, and reputation as their reason for the refusal. They have not been offered enough money for the deal to be intriguing.

“They are going to want a lot more money to do any extra work,” the insider shared.
Allegedly, the hosts aren’t the only ones being asked to take on more duties.
“’It’s not just Robin and George being asked to do more work – it’s the entire ABC team,” they revealed.
The three hosts believe the segment has been sullied since the former hosts TJ Holmes and Amy Robach’s affair caused a scandal.
While married to other people, the Daily Mail published pictures of the two enjoying a secret romantic getaway in 2022. They were both fired shortly after, but the show’s family-friendly image had already been tarnished.
Now, two years later, the talk show is still trying to pick up the pieces from their publicized affair. Based on that and the round of layoffs last month, Stephanopoulos, Roberts, and Strahan “want no part of” the “toxic hour.”

A spokesperson for the network shared that the host’s contribution to the third hour is a vital part of their “plans for the future” of the segment.
“The mood is hopeful, this is a fresh start,” the source added.
They explained, “What we have said from the beginning is that we are unifying all day parts under the GMA umbrella and team and that includes seeing all members of the extended GMA family in the third hour.”
“The third hour is a valued part of the GMA franchise,” the spokesperson continued. “Robin, George and Michael have been on before and they will continue to be featured.”
