Celebrity Gogglebox star Denise Van Outen has spoken candidly about her experience working alongside co-star Johnny Vaughan.
The presenter and actress first appeared on the Channel 4 programme in 2019, alongside her then-partner Eddie Boxshall. Following their separation, she was joined on the sofa by her close friend and singer Duncan James.
More recently, Denise’s former Big Breakfast co-host Johnny Vaughan has taken up a spot beside her – with the duo now familiar faces on the show, sharing their opinions on the latest television offerings.
Speaking on behalf of Sky Vegas, Denise opened up about what she struggles to watch on the TV, revealing: “I find it very hard to watch when reality shows become uncomfortable like that [referring to the Adam Thomas and Jimmy Bullard incident on I’m A Celebrity South Africa].

“I think a lot of people love it because everybody likes to eavesdrop on people’s dramas, and I know that more than anybody because I’ve worked on TOWIE for 16 years.”
The mum-of-one observed: “But I felt that, at times, it was uncomfortable. What I don’t like seeing is people upset, because it upsets me. I try not to get too involved in it.
“It was very controversial, and I suppose the good thing about it is that it gets people talking about what is and isn’t acceptable in terms of behaviour and boundaries. But personally, for me, I found it a very uncomfortable watch.”

She has opened up about working with Johnny
Denise also revealed that despite their differing tastes in television, she and Johnny “never argue” over what to watch.
“We have our favourite things that we like to watch, but we never argue about them because we share the remote control,” Denise said. She added: “I’m not a big fan of horror films because I get quite scared, and Johnny likes watching me get scared.”
Offering a glimpse into their friendship, Denise continued: “It makes him laugh because I tend to scream quite a lot. When we watch horror movies, I’m clinging on to him and trying to hide my eyes.”

When it comes to whether any further reality programmes are on the horizon for Denise, she revealed she’s eager to take part in Celebrity Bake Off. She said: “I’ve never really baked and I like cooking. I think that would be a fun one.”
Denise continued: “I like doing reality shows where you learn something. I think it’s good to learn a skill. I also did The Great Pottery Throw Down, which is airing this year, and I loved learning how to make things and work with ceramics. Anything where I can learn a new skill is fun.”
