Ginger Zee, Good Morning America’s chief meteorologist, faced a plane emerg3ncy landing on April Fools’ Day — and it was no joke.
On April 1, the 44-year-old shared on Instagram that her flight from LaGuardia (LGA) had to turn around and land emerg3ncy at JFK because of a hydraulics system failure.
“Not an April fool’s joke… our plane took off from LGA but had to turn around and land emerg3ncy at JFK because of a hydraulics failure,” she wrote. “Fire trucks everywhere but thankfully just precaution. Huge thanks to these heroes always ready. Grateful to be on the ground. Stay safe everyone.”
Photos showed firefighters in full gear near the wing and emerg3ncy vehicles ready on site. Officials confirmed Delta flight DL856 landed safely at 12:30 p.m. with no injur13s.
Almost a year earlier, Zee faced another scare: her r3ntal car was sm@shed & gr@bbed in Oakland, Calif. “Smash & grab was NOT on our bingo card… Grateful to be safe. The stolen stuff will be replaced… but sad for folks who do this,” she posted, sharing a photo of shatt3red glass on the backseat.
Besides her p@ssport, Zee lost sentimental items from sons Adrian and Miles. “Whoever did this, you took things deeply meaningful to me — handmade gifts, passport, glasses — probably trashed now or sold,” she added.
Despite the setbacks, Zee keeps her focus on what matters: “Most important, we’re all safe.”
