Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Announces Major Birmingham 2027 Update Just Days After UK Return
Prince Harry’s Invictus Games has announced a major new partnership ahead of the 2027 competition in Birmingham, just days after the Duke of Sussex returned to Britain.
Organisers have confirmed that Team Forces will become the official fundraising partner for Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, with the charity set to work alongside the Games team to secure financial support through fundraising initiatives and corporate partnerships.
The funding will help support the competition and the former servicemen and women who take part.
Team Forces, which works with the Armed Forces community through sport and adventure, will also collaborate with supporters, businesses and defence organisations to create wider opportunities linked to the Games.
The announcement comes at a significant moment for Harry, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014 following his own military service and is expected to play a prominent role when the competition comes to Birmingham next year.
Team Forces Hails ‘Natural’ Partnership
Lamont Kirkland, CEO of Team Forces, said the organisation was proud to join the Birmingham 2027 project.
“We are incredibly proud to become the Official Fundraising Partner for Invictus Games Birmingham 2027,” he said.
“The Invictus Games represent everything that Team Forces believes in – courage, resilience, recovery and the transformational power of sport.”
Kirkland said Team Forces has spent more than a decade helping members of the Armed Forces community access opportunities designed to support their physical and mental wellbeing.
“For over a decade, Team Forces has helped thousands of members of the Armed Forces community access opportunities that improve physical and mental wellbeing through sport and adventure,” he said.
“Supporting Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 is a natural extension of that mission.”
He added that the organisation is looking forward to working with corporate partners, supporters and the wider defence community to help deliver the Games.
“We look forward to working with the Birmingham 2027 team, our corporate partners and supporters across the defence community to help create a lasting legacy for the Games and to ensure that competitors receive the support and recognition they deserve.”
Birmingham 2027 Team Welcomes New Partner
Invictus Games organisers also welcomed the agreement.
Helen Helliwell, Chief Executive Officer of Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, said Team Forces’ work made it a strong fit for the event.
“We’re delighted to welcome Team Forces as our Official Fundraising Partner,” she said.
“Their commitment to supporting the health, wellbeing and recovery of the Armed Forces Community through sport and adventure makes them a fantastic partner for the Games.”
Helliwell said the two organisations would work together to make an impact that extends beyond the competition itself.
“Together, we’ll work with communities and partners to make a lasting difference for competitors, families and supporters, both during the Games and long after they finish.”
Harry Expected to Be Central to the Games
Harry is expected to attend the 2027 competition, having remained closely involved with the Invictus Games since creating the event more than a decade ago.
The Games were founded to use sport as a platform for recovery and rehabilitation among wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.
Harry’s own background in the Armed Forces has remained central to his work with the organisation.
The latest update arrives shortly after the Duke relocated back to Britain, adding further attention to his future UK commitments.
With Birmingham now preparing to host the next Games, organisers are turning their attention to funding, partnerships and the long-term legacy of the event.
The agreement with Team Forces marks one of the clearest signs yet that preparations are gathering pace.
