Prince Harry and William Reunion Hopes Hit Major Roadblock as Kate Becomes Key Sticking Point
Hopes of a reconciliation between Prince Harry and Prince William may be growing following the Sussexes’ return to Britain, but one major issue is reportedly standing in the way: Princess Kate.
Royal biographer Robert Jobson has claimed that William remains deeply protective of his wife and is unwilling to overlook public comments made about her during the years of tension between the Sussexes and the wider Royal Family.
The situation comes at a surprising moment.
Relations between Harry and King Charles once appeared especially strained following the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare, the loss of Frogmore Cottage and the long-running dispute over Harry’s security arrangements in Britain.
Harry’s criticism of Queen Camilla also reportedly caused further tension, with the King said to have been angered by some of the language used about his wife.
Yet the atmosphere appears to have shifted.
Harry and his family met with Charles earlier this year, and weeks later the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
That has now put attention firmly on William and Kate.
Kate Reportedly Remains the Biggest Obstacle
According to Jobson, William may be able to tolerate criticism directed at himself, but comments involving Catherine are a very different matter.
“I think he could take a lot of things being said about him,” Jobson explained.
“But he wasn’t prepared to have things said about her when she’s not in a position to answer back.”
Harry once publicly described Kate as the “sister he never had,” making the deterioration in their relationship especially striking.
The royal biographer suggested that William sees attacks or criticism involving his wife as a line he is far less willing to cross.
That could complicate any attempt by Harry and William to rebuild their relationship, even as the brothers are now geographically much closer than they were during Harry’s years in California.
William and Kate Expected to ‘Rise Above’ the Drama
Jobson also suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales are unlikely to engage publicly with the latest speculation surrounding Harry and Meghan.
Instead, he believes they will try to stay above the noise.
“I think that they’ll probably think, well, we’ve been down this road before,” he said.
“It creates a circus, and we’re not going to get involved.”
That approach would allow William and Kate to avoid becoming part of another public back-and-forth with the Sussexes.
The comments also underline the difference between Charles’ reported position and William’s.
While the King appears to have reopened the door to some form of contact with Harry, the Prince of Wales is said to remain much more cautious.
Charles Appears to Have Softened
There was a period when reconciliation between Harry and his father seemed extremely unlikely.
After Spare was published, Harry and Meghan lost the use of Frogmore Cottage, their former Windsor residence.
Harry’s criticism of Camilla and his comments surrounding security and the royal establishment only added to the strain.
But the reported meeting between Harry’s family and Charles earlier this year suggested a possible change in tone.
The Sussexes’ subsequent return to Britain has only intensified speculation that family relations could slowly improve.
For William, however, the situation appears more complicated.
According to Jobson’s assessment, any future reunion would require more than simply putting aside disagreements between the brothers themselves.
Kate remains central to the issue.
And while royal watchers may hope that Harry’s return to Britain brings the brothers closer, William is reportedly unwilling to move forward if he believes his wife has been unfairly drawn into past disputes.
For now, Charles may have reopened one royal door, but the path back to William still appears far less straightforward.
