The drama, based on Julia May Jonas’ 2022 novel of the same name, revolves around a married woman who becomes smitten with her new co-worker.

The official synopsis states: “As a woman’s (Weisz) life unravels, she becomes obsessed with her captivating new colleague (Woodall).

“Full of s3xy secrets, dark humor and complex characters, Vladimir is about what happens when a woman goes hell-bent to turn her fantasies into reality,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

Jonas, the original author, will adapt the story for the screen, working alongside showrunner Kate Robin, known for her work on Netflix’s Dead To Me. Both will also serve as executive producers, with Bad Sisters actress Sharon Horgan joining the production team.

The novel by Jonas delves into intricate themes of obsession and gender, which are expected to be explored in the drama.

“With Kate Robin’s expertise in crafting layered, darkly comedic female stories, a script that deftly examines the complexity of attraction and moral ambiguities, and the incomparable Rachel Weisz leading the cast, this project is a powerhouse collaboration of talented women.

“We can’t wait for our fans to be as obsessed with Vladimir as we are,” Netflix’s vice president of comedy series, Tracey Pakosta, teased.

Actress Horgan, who also co-founded the production company Merman, added: “I fell in love with Julia’s writing from the very first paragraph.

“I feel incredibly lucky and excited for Merman to bring Vladimir to life alongside Small Dog. Having the opportunity to partner with Netflix and having Rachel on board is a thrill and speaks volumes about the brilliance of the scripts.”

Vladimir serves as Woodall’s second leading role for the streaming giant. Just last year, the London-born star won over audiences as Dexter Mayhew in the romantic drama One Day, based on David Nicholls’ bestseller.
