Royal biographer Tom Bower gave his take on why Earl Spencer has sparked a fresh feud with King Charles, 29 years on from the death of Princess Diana. Speaking to Nigel Farage on GB News on Thursday, the biographer hinted at the real reason behind Prince Harry and Meghan’s UK return.

The new allegations made in Earl Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song: Diary, My Sister, serialised in the Daily Mail, are on several front pages. While Buckingham Palace said that the King is mindful that “grief can cloud reason” in response to the latest allegations, members of the royal family have remained silent about claims made in Earl Spencer’s book.

The King, Prince William and Princess Catherine made no remarks on the allegations as they carried out royal engagements on Thursday. The Duke of Sussex also said nothing of his uncle’s book when asked by reporters as he attended the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in London.

In a bombshell claim, Tom suggested Harry and Meghan “have formed an alliance” with Earl Spencer amid their UK return. He also claimed the real reason for their return was to “cause trouble” for the monarchy.

The royal biographer claimed: “He’s not only selling a book, but he also undoubtedly has formed an alliance with Harry and Meghan to damage the King. Arguments between aristocrats have been going on for a thousand years in British history – they normally end with an execution.”

He cheekily joked: “I’m sure the king is thinking tonight, ‘I could cut off his head.'”

Tom explained that when he wrote his book about then Prince Charles titled The Rebel King, he had “impeccable sources in Balmoral”, and all were united in saying that Charles was in “real grief” following the death of his ex-wife, Diana, Princess of Wales. “The idea he was ‘giddily elated’ is absolute rubbish,” he assured.

Addressing Harry and Meghan’s return, Tom claimed: “The return of Harry and Meghan is heading towards a crisis. They haven’t declared why they are here. They haven’t declared how long they’ll stay.

Their objective is not to ingratiate themselves with the royal family but to cause trouble. There is no doubt that Harry knew Spencer was going to release this book.”

Despite his claims, there is no evidence that Harry had prior knowledge of his uncle’s memoir or its contents.

Nigel then quizzed: “Let’s take your premise that Spencer is working with Harry to damage the king. Would Harry really want to damage his father?”

Tom suggested the duke is “desperate to return to the UK,” but on the Sussexes terms.

He added: “Their terms are non-negotiable.”

‘He has undoubtedly formed an alliance with Harry and the Duchess.’

Meanwhile, Harry attended his first royal outing since being back in Britain for the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in London.

Dressed in a black tie and wearing his military medals, Harry posed for photographs in front of the press and then for selfies with wounded veterans as he arrived for the ceremony at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, south-east London.

At a champagne reception in an adjoining courtyard, he told guests he was “incredibly excited” to meet the winners and nominees after being part of the judging panel, alongside the Duchess of Sussex, for the awards.
