Viewers were offended after a buyer made a careless comment during an episode of A Place in the Sun. Presenter Lee Juggurnauth helped Carol and David find their dream home in Valencia. Having already sold up in the UK, the pressure was high for the Channel 4 host to secure them a perfect property.

Carol and David, who had been married for 45 years, were ready to move to Spain full time. They wanted to find a home that all of the family could enjoy. They hoped their budget of £225,000 would find them a detached villa with three bedrooms, outdoor space and located close to the beach. They also said a swimming pool was the “most important thing” for them.

The first property ticked all of the boxes, as a detached house with a large amount of outdoor space and a pool. However, both Carol and David were not impressed. Lee asked for their first impressions, and David immediately responded: “The pool is too small.”

The circular shaped swimming pool was not good enough for the couple. David continued: “I know it’s picky but we play volleyball so it’s the wrong shape.” After looking inside the property, Carol agreed: “It’s not doing it for me, I don’t think it’s big enough for the family.” David said: “There’s no way I’d consider this.”

With the hopes of making a better impression, Lee took the couple to a second property which offered three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a courtyard with a pool. But viewers were not impressed when Carol made a comment about the living space which looked “very Spanish.”

Taking to X, formally known as Twitter, one fan said: “Very Spanish looking?!? It’s in Spain FFS!!! I hate that phrase.” Another added: “Very Spanish. I’m no Poirot, but I reckon that’s because it’s in Spain.” More fans were offended by the comment, suggesting: “She doesn’t care much for the culture does she” while another commented “Very Spanish!!!!!”

When it came to the third house, Lee was pleased to see David finally “smiling”, while Carol also said: “I’m impressed.” The large country villa boasted four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a pool and a rooftop solarium. David told the Channel 4 host: “You’ve nailed it, mate”, after announcing the house was a contender for them.

In a bid to impress them even more, Lee offered David and and Carol another two properties but neither of them managed to beat property three in their eyes. In the end, they decided to put an offer in on their favourite property and managed to secure it for under the asking price for £245,000.
