Prince Harry’s latest drama regarding his chaotic trip to the UK has been described as “embarrassing and a “slap in the face” for King Charles, according to a former royal staffer. The Duke of Sussex came back to Britain on Monday after a series of briefings between Buckingham Palace and his team. Harry had initially declined an invitation to stay at a royal residence on Saturday but then made a U-turn and requested to stay for just one night at Buckingham Palace, only to be told he had accepted the King’s offer too late.
He was also told his presence could compromise his father’s constitutional position, with judgment due in the duke’s High Court case against Associated Newspapers today. Now, former royal butler Grant Harrold claimed that the latest Prince William would have warned his father that this could happen, and would likely have an ‘I told you so’ moment.

Speaking to CanadaCasino, Mr Harrold said: “I do believe William would be having an ‘I told you so’ moment.
“William would have seen this coming, making this incredibly embarrassing for his father, who has yet again tried to offer Harry an olive branch. Harry has repeatedly slapped the King in the face, which is a great shame.”
Mr Harrold also expressed concerns that the last-minute change of plan indicates that Charles’s relationship with his son has “completely broken down”.

He said: “This is an extraordinary yet upsetting development. Harry is saying one thing, and the palace is saying another.
“This back and forth with contradicting statements feels like a throwback to where we were six years ago when Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down as senior royals.
“Unfortunately, this indicates that Harry and the King’s relationship has completely broken down. It is a PR crisis for both parties, and the palace team would not be moving forward with these remarks without the King’s full backing.
“The King is obviously saddened by this latest setback. It is all a real mess and has really exposed their private relationship. It is all very embarrassing, especially for the Royal Family.”
