Prince Harry and Meghan ‘set to annoy’ King Charles and Prince William as royal popularity battle erupts
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could become an unexpected headache for King Charles and Prince William after returning to Britain, with one royal expert warning that the Sussexes could soon find themselves at the centre of a fierce battle for public attention.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived back in the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet earlier this week, marking a dramatic new chapter after years of building their lives in California.

Any public appearance, charity visit, family sighting or announcement could therefore become headline news within minutes.
And that could leave the King and the Prince of Wales fighting for attention.
Bond described the situation as “a distraction that will annoy the King and — especially — William.”
The timing could make matters even more complicated.
Harry is expected to remain closely involved with the Invictus Games, and increased publicity surrounding the Duke could generate substantial media coverage.
Bond predicted that the next few months could begin to resemble a competition for the spotlight.
“I’m afraid it will all be seen as something of a competition in the next few months,” she said, particularly as Harry seeks to generate more publicity for the Invictus Games.
That raises an awkward question for the Royal Family: what happens when the Sussexes’ every move becomes bigger news than the official work of the monarchy?
For William and Catherine, whose public roles centre heavily on long-term charitable campaigns and national causes, losing media attention could be frustrating.
Bond warned that until the novelty of Harry and Meghan being back in Britain fades, the Sussexes could have the upper hand.
“And, until the novelty of having him and the family back in the UK wears off, it’s a competition that Harry will probably win,” she claimed.
That would be a remarkable reversal.
Harry and Meghan left Britain in 2020 determined to establish a more independent life away from the pressures of royal duty. Now, their return could place them directly back into the same media environment they once sought to escape.
The Sussexes do not need to become working royals to dominate the headlines.
In fact, their position outside the institution may make their every move even more fascinating.
The working royals have official duties, carefully planned engagements and causes they are expected to support.
Harry and Meghan, by contrast, can choose when and where they appear — potentially allowing them to create moments that attract enormous attention.
The result could be an uncomfortable royal paradox.
The Sussexes may not have returned to serve the Crown, but they could nevertheless become one of the biggest distractions facing it.
And if Bond’s prediction proves correct, the real battle may not take place inside Buckingham Palace at all.
