Tess Daly and Vernon Kay appear to have settled into a surprisingly close new family dynamic just four months after ending their 22-year marriage, according to a body language expert.
The former couple announced in May that they had decided to “separate amicably”, but recently reunited with daughters Phoebe and Amber for a family holiday in the South of France.
Photos from the trip showed Tess and Vernon posing happily together with their daughters, prompting questions over how their relationship has evolved since the split.
Body language expert Judi James has now analysed one of the family photographs and suggested the images project a strong sense of unity despite the breakdown of the marriage.
James stressed that the poses could partly reflect the couple’s public profiles, noting that both Tess and Vernon work in family-friendly television and may naturally want to present a stable family image.
“These look like understandably brand-sensitive body language poses, projecting family harmony and affection despite the fact that the marriage has famously and very publicly broken down,” she said.
Expert Spots ‘No Hard Feelings’
While body language cannot establish someone’s private feelings with certainty, James believed there were signs that the family’s closeness extends beyond simply posing for a photograph.
She pointed out that Phoebe and Amber are now older, meaning the family does not necessarily need to maintain the same level of togetherness purely for young children.
According to James, their willingness to take part in the affectionate group photographs suggested the family “team dynamic” could continue even when cameras are not present.
She also focused on Vernon’s position in the group.
The BBC Radio 2 presenter stood in the middle, with his arms stretched behind the others.
James interpreted the pose as one of confidence, leadership and protection, suggesting Vernon was still being presented as an important figure at the centre of the family.
Tess’s body language attracted particular attention.
James noted that while Vernon faced the camera directly, Tess angled herself towards him and joined his pose.
She suggested this could hint at a feeling of “no hard feelings” following their separation.
Daughters Appear to Keep Vernon at Heart of Family
Phoebe and Amber also appeared comfortable surrounding their father in the photograph.
James said their positioning suggested they remained happy for Vernon to occupy a central role in their family life despite the marriage ending.
She added that the group looked keen to keep him involved in family holidays, something she described as unusual for some separated couples whose children are already older.
The reunion therefore appears consistent with Tess and Vernon’s original description of their breakup as amicable rather than hostile.
Their marriage may be over, but their latest photographs suggest they remain committed to spending time together as a family.
The pair’s new living arrangements also appear to support that approach.
According to a previous report, Vernon has bought a £3million property around 15 minutes from the Buckinghamshire family home he once shared with Tess and their daughters.
Tess, meanwhile, has reportedly been concentrating on her career as she adjusts to the changes in her personal life.
