Pacheco missed 13 games last season as the Chiefs made it to a third-straight Super Bowl.

A seventh round pick in 2022, the New Jersey native made the starting role his own in his rookie campaign.

He returned as the Chiefs starting running back in 2024, only to endure a tough year after breaking his fibula in Week 2.

Pacheco started just six games games in the regular season, averaging a paltry 3.7 yards and scoring a solitary touchdown.

According to NFL Insider Tony Pauline, a contract extension for Pacheco “won’t be considered until the 2025 season starts.”

The seventh-round pick will need to “prove to coach Andy Reid he’s back to health and prior form” before the Chiefs commit to his future.

“Helps team win Super Bowls in his first two seasons and is ready to be dumped like trash? The league really doesn’t value running backs,” raged one fan on X in response.

“I would love to see Pacheco back. I know a lot of fans have moved on already, but some players take a little bit longer to bounce back from injury!” added another.

“He will get there. Terrible decision if they let him go,” agreed a third.

“I like Pacheco but it’s time for the chiefs to look for a difference maker at the position. Keep [Kareem] Hunt at the minimum,” countered a fourth.

Kansas City Chiefs announces Travis Kelce’s retirement decision after weeks of speculation
“They should look to replace him in this draft. At least get some competition. He runs hard and he’s a great dude, but his vision is poor,” said a fifth.

Kansas City faces limited cap space this offseason, with star tight end Travis Kelce recently confirming he will return for another year.

ESPN’s Pat McAfee was the first to claim Kelce will return for his 13th season in the NFL after contemplating retirement.

The former NFL punter-turned-media personality read out an apparent text from Kelce, hinting that he would play in 2025.

“I’m coming back, for sure,” Kelce told McAfee in the message.

“Gonna try and get to the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop.”

The Chiefs are hoping to bounce back from disappointment in Super Bowl LIX.

Targeting a historic three-peat, Patrick Mahomes and Co were blown out 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Pacheco received just three carries in New Orleans, taking them 7 yards.
