Free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers has sounded off on his final meeting with the New York Jets, ripping his old team and their new coach with claims that he had his time wasted and was disrespected.
The Jets opted to part ways with Rodgers at the end of the 2024 season following a disastrous spell together, during which Robert Saleh was fired.
Aaron Glenn has come in as his replacement and apparently wasn’t willing to chance his future on the QB. According to Rodgers, he paid for his own flight to meet with the new management and expected a real conversation, something he never got.
Rodgers appeared on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Thursday and told the host he met with Glenn and they were having a talk before the new HC ran out of the room and returned with general manager Darren Mougey.
He says Glenn asked whether he was sure he wanted to play football and he confirmed he was before he was told the team would be moving in another direction.
“So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation, and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: You sure you wanna play football? And I said yes, and he said, “we’re going in another direction.”

Rodgers “Shouldn’t Have Been Surprised” By Jets’ Lack Of Respect

Rodgers added that there wasn’t much respect in that meeting, although he shouldn’t have been surprised because of what he saw during his time with the team.
“I felt there wasn’t an ample amount of respect in that meeting,” he claimed. “I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised based on some things I saw over two years.”
Rodgers also claimed to be surprised that he wasn’t asked about his experience with the Jets or the current state of the team.
As for his future, it appears he’s seriously considering retirement. The Pittsburgh Steelers want him as their new QB but he has left them waiting for several weeks now, and it stil doesn’t seem like he has made up his mind.

Aaron Rodgers is now thought to be seriously considering retirement, as the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have made no secret of their desire to sign him, have not heard back from him since they met last month.
The parties met on March 21, and team owner Art Rooney has said they’re willing to wait on the quarterback. But, as of Thursday morning, Rodgers had not given the organization an update, with the NFL Draft just a week away.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the team has no clue what Rodgers plans to do.
“I can tell you, I spoke to Pittsburgh this morning,” Russini told ‘The Herd’. “No updates right now. At this point, as we’re a week out from the draft, they still have no idea whether or not Aaron Rodgers is gonna sign with them.”
CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkabwla also notes that Rodgers is not going to play just for playing’s sake in 2025 and wants to sign for a contender. She even stated that, at this point, “Rodgers is more likely to retire than sign with a team that’s not a Super Bowl contender.”
While he has remained in communication with the Steelers franchise, he has not given them an update.

Is Aaron Rodgers Trying To Avoid The Kirk Cousins Trap?

Rodgers has already visited Pittsburgh and worked out with their new wide receiver, DK Metcalf, but it appears he’s keen on delaying his decision until the draft.
That could be because of what happened to Kirk Cousins last year. The quarterback signed with the Atlanta Falcons at the soonest opportunity after becoming a free agent, only to be blindsided by them drafting Michael Penix Jr. in the first round.
“Aaron Rodgers is 41 years old, has made nearly $400M and is intellectually stimulated by more than football. From every convo I myself had with him about trying to mold/shape/push a Jets team NOT on the brink of a Super Bowl to every convo I’ve had with execs trying to woo him this offseason, it’s extremely clear Rodgers is not going to play just for the sake of playing,” Kinkabwala said.
The Steelers are still prepared to wait, but it seems that the longer they wait, the less likely it is that Aaron Rodgers will sign with them.
