Dancing On Ice viewers were left divided after Olympic duo Torvill and Dean took to the ice on Sunday evening.

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who won gold at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics in 1984, announced last year that they would be retiring after their tour comes to an end in summer.

The skating duo closed out the ITV show’s launch episode with a classic performance to Let The Good Times Roll.

And speaking to MailOnline ahead of Sunday’s launch, the skating duo revealed their second performance later in the series would be their last ever on TV.

But viewers’ opinions of their first second last broadcast skate on Sunday were split, as some fans gushed over the performance and hailed Torvill and Dean ‘superstars’.

Meanwhile others weren’t so impressed, as they slammed the skaters’ performance as ‘boring’.

‘Torvill and Dean still the best ,’; ‘Torvill and Dean are just amazing. Ahhhh nearly 70,’;

‘Everyone complaining about Torvill and Dean, they are pushing 60, to be able to even do this at their age, is still good, you can tell they are struggling though so makes sense they are retiring this year.’

However unimpressed viewers noted: ‘I get torvill and dean got gold and all the rest and they can still skate at their age but god they bore me,’;

‘Can we vote Chris and Jayne off,’; ‘Torville and Dean perform on loop. It’s rinse and repeat,’;

‘Do they just do the same dance to different music. No wonder they’re retiring.’

Speaking on Friday, Torvill and Dean revealed their second Dancing On Ice performance during the 2025 series will be their last ever on TV together, as they prepare for retirement.

The duo, known as Torvill and Dean, rose to fame when they won gold at the Olympics with their iconic skate to Maurice Ravel’s Boléro – which is replicated each year by the Dancing On Ice finalists.

The skating stars delight Dancing On Ice viewers each year as they themselves take to the ice – but they have now confirmed that will no longer be a feature on the ITV show.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, the pair explained: ‘This is our last year, so it’s a big one.

‘We are going to do two performances during the series but the second will be our last ever on television.’

Reassuring fans they will not be quitting Dancing On Ice, they added: ‘We will still do the show, but not skate anymore, ending with our tour in the summer.

‘We have been with the show from the beginning, we developed it with ITV. It’s hard to know what impact it will have, and how we feel.’

Speaking about their looming retirement, they said: ‘We knew on our 50th year we would hang out skates up.

‘The idea of not having a schedule will be different.’

Chris added: ‘We thought this year was a good time to do it. Now we both have a bus pass, it’s time.’

The British skating duo will embark on one final UK tour next year, which will be their swansong and mark 50 years since they formed their skating partnership in 1975 .

Announcing their retirement in February, Dean said that the pair had agreed it was the ‘right time’ to stop skating as they are ‘not spring chickens anymore’ and want to walk away while they’re still able to do it ‘to a certain degree.’

‘I think there comes a time when you know,’ said Dean. ‘We’re not spring chickens anymore but we’re still able to do it to a certain degree that we feel good about it but that will go.

‘So, I think this is the right time for us to be able to do that and go and skate and do some of the old routines, be very nostalgic, but then do some new fun, upbeat (dances) with friends of ours from the skating world and from Dancing On Ice.’
