Denise Welch has backtracked on her infamous interview where she made comments about son Matty Healy’s relationship with Taylor Swift.
The Loose Women star and actress, 67, faced the wrath of Taylor’s huge fanbase after making a subtle dig at her tendency to pen songs about her famous exes.
Denise appeared on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live earlier this month where she made the swipe.
When quizzed by Andy, 57, on Taylor’s new album, Denise said: ‘Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad I lost’.
While the audience gasped, Denise then accused Taylor’s legion of fans – called Swifties – of lashing out at anyone who dares to criticize her.
Taylor, 35 and Matty split in 2023 after a brief romance, though had known each other as far back as 2014.

Among other viewer complaints, Denise was accused of changing her natural voice for the appearance on American TV.
One said: ‘So why has Denise completely changed her accent? She sounds so much more posh. Trying to impress I see.’
Another chimed in: ‘What happened to her accent? WTF.’
Denise has now addressed the the interview on Loose Women after being quizzed by her fellow panelists.
She told them: ‘You know, it really bugs me that, because in this country people go, “Er she’s lost her Geordie accent”, I never talked like Gazza!’
After a back and forth with her co-stars Denise said: ‘I can hear an inflection there, and having said that, Lincoln knows exactly who I am on the phone to because apparently if I have spoken to a friend who is from Liverpool I’m going like that [in a Liverpudlian accent].
‘And years ago my ex-husband Tim was doing a show in Australia and said to somebody, ‘We’ve been here two days and our lass picks up the phone to someone and goes ‘Hello?’ [in an Australian accent]’.’
It comes after Denise was pictured being comforted by Matty after the backlash to her interview.

It appeared that things may have gotten too much for Denise as she struggled to hold in her emotions while out with her rocker son, 36, – though a source told it was due to a ‘family matter’.
She was seen dabbing her eyes with a tissue as she sat on a pavement outside Stella restaurant, with the 1975 front man sitting close by to support her.
The pair, who were said to be at dinner with Matty’s fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel, appeared deep in conversation, with Matty taking the opportunity to puff on a cigarette while supporting is mother.
Denise and Matty then stood up and embraced, before seemingly heading inside.
