Fans of the National Television Awards (NTAs) were disgusted when Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden missed out on an award. The professional ballroom dancer was nominated for the Authored Documentary award after her deeply moving documentary about her cancer journey.
Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me showcased the 35-year-old’s battle for her health, a future family and a return to dance after a breast cancer diagnosis blew apart her world in 2023. Many viewers felt inspired by the film as Amy showed her strength and resilience, with fans cheering her on all the way. However, once again her supporters were in her corner this evening as she sadly wasn’t named as the winner of the gong. Instead, Molly-Mae Hague received the prestigious award for her documentary series Molly-Mae: Behind It All. The former Love Island star gave viewers an insight into the behind-the-scenes of her life since her split from Tommy Fury in 2024 as she juggled motherhood and a career.

Other nominees included Boyzone: No Matter What, Flintoff and There’s Only One Rob Burrow.
Despite the public voting for the awards at the NTAs, fans at home were still outraged over the chosen winner. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), fans fumed over the outcome, with some saying that it was like a “slap in the face” to Amy.
One viewer fumed: “Molly Mae winning that award over the inspirational people like Amy Dowden and Rob Burrow is a massive slap in the face, that’s disgusting. #NTAs.”
Another echoed: “Molly Mae winning best authored documentary, inspirational really? Who on earth voted? Rob Burrows and Amy Dowden are inspirational, not someone who talks about their love life and sells products. She did have the grace to talk about Rob to be fair #NTAs.”
“Molly Mae winning an NTA over Rob Burrow or Amy Dowden is everything that is wrong with the world #NTAS,” a third fumed, while one more wrote: “Amy Dowden and Rob Burrows made their documentaries about raising awareness of life threatening diseases, even at Amy and Rob’s own physical discomfort because they cared.
“Molly Mae made a documentary about her adulterous boyfriend – and won. What a joke #NTAs #NationalTVAwards.”
