Kate Garraway shared an important conversation with her late husband Derek Draper that saw him ‘burst into tears’ before their wedding.
The 57-year-old, who tied the knot with the former political lobbyist in September 2005, opened up about what was said on Tuesday’s episode of Lorraine.
Kate has been a step-in host for Lorraine Kelly on the show this week.
During one segment of the programme, the journalist spoke to Hannah Fernando and Jo Elvin about how two in three women are keeping their surname after tying the knot.
Kate said: ‘I had a moment, Derek and I were sitting in John Lewis doing the wedding list and the man, the lovely gentleman there, said: “And do I put you down as Garraway-Draper?
‘And I said “Oh no definitely Kate Draper.”

‘Derek burst into tears. He was so happy. He was sobbing away saying “I can’t believe you’d do that, that’s so wonderful”.
‘I said “I would absolutely love to if you’re prepared to marry me then of course I’d take your name!”
However she pointed out that in the end she ‘never changed it.’
Derek passed away in January 2024 after suffering a heart attack following a long battle with Covid.
The couple met in 2004 and married a year later.
Kate shares her two kids Billy, 17, and Darcy, 19, with her late husband.
The journalist was previously married to Ian Rumsey between 1998 and 2002.
It comes after Kate revealed her teenage son suffered from a ‘brutal injury at the worst possible time’ as she replaced Lorraine Kelly in a ITV hosting shake-up.

Kate stepped in for the Scottish presenter, 65, on ITV’s Lorraine on Monday morning, for the first time in 11 years.
Doctor Hilary Jones appeared on the sofa to chat about some healthy Easter eggs, but before he went into that, he wanted to know how Kate’s kids are getting on.
Kate, who previously stood in for Lorraine during the holidays until 2014, said: ‘Well, they’re doing well. So Billy has got, he’s going his GCSEs at the moment.
‘They start really early! In my day, which was O-Levels, it was all June! But now, most of his are over by the end of May.
‘He did break his arm two weeks ago, really badly in three places.
Dr Hilary Jones wanted to know how Kate’s kids (pictured above with her) were getting on during a segment on the show
‘Unfortunately it was his left hand… so he can still write.’
She also mentioned how her eldest is getting a long too.
‘Darcy is doing great. She’s in her first year of uni now,’ she went on.
Dr Hilary asked what she’s reading, to which Kate revealed: ‘Law and criminology, so that’s a bit scary isn’t it. She’s up in Manchester.’
He replied: ‘Successful. Happy, that’s great.’
Kate confessed: ‘They’re all going forward, as much as anyone can under the circumstances. They won’t be watching.’
‘They were supposed to be revising but they will be asleep.’
