Maya Jama broke her silence on her rumoured romance with footballer Ruben Dias, as she hit back at a troll on social media on Tuesday.

The Love Island host, 30, is thought to be dating the Manchester City star after the pair were pictured celebrating New Year’s Eve together in Ibiza.

They reportedly been secretly dating a month ago, after Maya first caught Ruben’s eye when they first met at the European Music Awards.

Most recently, an Instagram post from Dias’ New Year celebrations further fuelled speculation that they are dating.

The compilation of 11 pictures included a snap of two people gazing at a sunset with their backs to the camera and their faces obscured, though they two appear to be a man and a woman – and fans were sure it was Maya.

Now, Maya has addressed the speculation for the first time on X as she responded to a comment from a troll.

One user had penned a tweet about people who ‘sit on the net all day and obsess about people they don’t know and their relationships’.

Maya quoted their tweet with screenshots of earlier posts from the same user, where they reacted to news of her romance with Ruben by writing: ‘She don’t rest’ and that ‘women who jump from relationship to relationship are scary’.

Hitting back, the presenter simply wrote: ‘Oh.. but ..’ alongside two laughing emojis.

When Ruben shared the picture that’s thought to include Maya, one fan wrote ‘Maya Jama hard launch,’ while others posted gifs and images of her beneath his  post.

Another appeared to be a fan of a potential relationship between the two, adding: ‘I ship Ruben and Maya so bad (sic)’.

One follower appeared to poke fan at the fact that Dias is currently out injured with a calf problem, writing: ‘You can pull Maya Jama but you can’t pull yourself back on the pitch??’

A source told The Sun: ‘Maya and Ruben swapped details at the EMAs and have chatted since, but things went up a gear in early December.

‘When Ruben got injured and had to miss the congested new year fixtures, he jumped at the chance to see in 2025 with Maya in Spain. Spending New Year’s Eve together was a real step forward in their relationship.

‘They get on really well and obviously make a gorgeous couple, but it’s early days.’

Maya and Ruben’s romance was first revealed when a social media snap emerged that showed them celebrating the New Year together in Ibiza.

While Maya did share a racy snap on her Stories while celebrating the New Year, she didn’t post any images with Dias.

Just last month, Maya shared a huge hint that she’s serious about her romance with Manchester City star Ruben.

Discussing her hopes for ‘marriage and kids’ in a recent interview, the Love Island host admitted that she ‘didn’t need anyone’ and would only date with intention.

The pair were pictured celebrating the New Year together in Ibiza this week after first been linked in November.

Speaking to the The Evening Standard in November, Maya explained: ‘I am so happy right now but the next person I meet I want to marry and have kids with, so obviously I’m feeling fussy.

‘I’ve created such a nice life for myself alone and I don’t want anyone who’s not going to add to that.

Maya announced her split from rapper Stormzy in July, after taking to Instagram with a joint statement stating: ‘We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and the spent five years manoeuvring life apart.

They confirmed the breakup was ‘final’ after previously going their separate ways following a five year relationship in 2019 and reconnecting in August 2023.

While it was thought the couple split after disagreements over when to settle down, with Stormzy more of a homeboy and Maya more career driven, last month she confirmed this wasn’t the case.

After photos emerged of the rapper, 31, his new girlfriend Victoria Monet, Maya took to Instagram to take the opportunity to say that the narrative ‘that I don’t want to settle down and have kids is a lieeeee.’

It had been reported that the former couple broke up because Maya was keen to focus on her career instead of settle down with the ‘homebody’ rapper.

Meanwhile Dias previously dated Love Island star Arabella Chi for three months, before he reportedly dumped her in the New Year of 2024. Arabella went onto appear on Love Island: All Stars just weeks later.
