Fox NFL analyst and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan is reportedly looking to become part-owner of the team he spent his entire career with.

John Mara and Steve Tisch own the New York Giants but are selling a 10 percent stake in the football team. Forbes valued the Giants at $7.3 billion last August, and it’s widely estimated that the minority stake will go for $750 to %800 million.

According to a report from Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams of Sporitco, Michael Strahan and billionaire Marc Lasry are partnering up to put in a bid for the Giants’ minority stake.

Lasry, the CEO and founder of Avenue Capital Group, sold his 25 percent stake in the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks to Jimmy and Dee Haslam (owners of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns) in 2023.

Strahan’s former teammate, quarterback Eli Manning, is also putting together a bid for the Giants’ minority stake. The No. 1 pick of the 2004 NFL Draft spent his entire career with the Giants (2004 to 201), helping the club to Super Bowl titles in the 2007 and 2011 seasons.

After retirement, Strahan became an NFL analyst on “Fox NFL Sunday”, a role he’s held since 2008. He works alongside Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Jay Glazer, Howie Long and Rob Gronkowski.

A second-round pick of the Giants in 1993, Michael Strahan emerged as one of the league’s all-time great pass rushers. He earned seven Pro Bowl nods and four First-team All-Pro selections, winning Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2001.

The NFL 2000s All-Decade Team member helped the Giants to a Super Bowl appearance in the 2000 season, but they were crushed by the Baltimore Ravens in the big game. But Strahan got to retire as a champion when his Giants upset the previously undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl 42.

Now, we wait to see if the Hall of Famer will return to the Giants as an owner.

The New York Giants’ decision to sell a minority stake in the franchise was already shaping up to be one of the most intriguing business moves of the NFL offseason, and now Eli Manning has added his name to the process.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the Giants were considering a sale of up to 10% of the franchise. A deal could set a new NFL valuation record—and potentially bring a franchise legend.

The move follows the NFL’s approval of a structure for PE deals last summer and subsequent agreements for the Bills and Dolphins.

Recent franchise valuations have estimated the Giants’ worth at $7.3 billion, which would make them the fourth-best team in the entire league.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported that the New York Giants’ legendary quarterback, Eli Manning, is putting together a group to bid for a stake in the team.

Gillian Tan and Randall Williams of Bloomberg added that Manning has spoken to individual investors, including retired NFL players.

 

In January, Manning said he would like to buy a stake in the Giants if it ever came up for sale. “There’s probably only one team I’d be interested in pursuing,” he said in an interview with CNBC. “It’s the one I played for for 16 years.”

Having Eli Manning as a minority owner of the Giants would be poetic.

Manning was drafted No. 1 overall by the then-San Diego Chargers in the 2004 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss before being traded to the New York Giants on draft night.

On top of being named the Super Bowl MVP twice and a four-time Pro Bowler, the Ole Miss product won the NFL’s most prestigious honors in 2016 when he was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year.

Manning hoisted the Lombardi Trophy twice in his career, once in 2008 and the other in 2012, and is the only man ever to state that he defeated Tom Brady twice in a Super Bowl.

Manning finished his 16-year NFL career with 57,023 passing yards and 366 touchdowns, all with the Giants.
