Rock legend Sir Rod Stewart has handed Nigel Farage a surprise endorsement ahead of his slot at Glastonbury on Sunday.

Stewart, 80, who was a lifelong Tory voter and Remain-supporter in 2016, opened up about his change of heart since the 2024 General Election.

Despite previously admitting he fancied Theresa May, the former Faces frontman voted for Labour last July.

However, as Sir Keir Starmer approaches his one year milestone, Stewart appeared to switch his support to the Prime Minister’s main foe.

Speaking to The Times, Stewart said: “It’s hard for me because I’m extremely wealthy, and I deserve to be, so a lot of it doesn’t really touch me.

“But that doesn’t mean I’m out of touch. For instance, I’ve read about Starmer cutting off the fishing in Scotland and giving it back to the EU.

“That hasn’t made him popular. We’re fed up with the Tories. We’ve got to give Farage a chance. He’s coming across well.”

He added: “What options have we got? I know some of his family, I know his brother, and I quite like him.”

When asked what the Reform UK leader stands for other than Brexit and tighter economic policies, Stewart replied: “But Starmer’s all about getting us out of Brexit and I don’t know how he’s going to do that.

“Still, the country will survive. It could be worse. We could be in the Gaza Strip.”

Stewart joins a growing list of star-studded Reform UK supporters, including ex-Neighbours star Holly Valance and celebrity chef Marco Pierre White.

Farage could also call on a list of celebrities to support his other campaigns, enlisting actress Dame Joan Collins as Ukip patron.

However, Stewart also used his interview with The Times to address other issues.

Turning his attention to the conflict in the Middle East, Stewart added: “It’s depressing, what’s going on in the Gaza Strip.

“Netanyahu doesn’t realise that this is what happened to his people under the Nazis: total annihilation. And Trump is going to turn the Gaza Strip into Miami?”

Discussing potholes, the 80-year-old added: “I took me Ferrari out. Nearly lost the f**king wheel.

“And before I did in the Ferrari I saw an ambulance that couldn’t move, the wheel stuck right in there.

“So I took me mates out, and we knew what to do because I had builders in the house.

“We filled in a considerable length of the road, actually.”

Stewart’s appearance at Worthy Farm comes just hours after the 80-year-old almost cancelled his much-anticipated 90-minute show.

Stewart came down with a “b*****d flu”, The Sun has revealed.

He added: “This time last week I was thinking of cancelling. It was a close shave. I have had Influenza A. It’s been so terrible.

“But my dear wife Penny and some good medical people got me through it. There was a lot of technical massaging from some very good people I know, which sounds filthy doesn’t it? You’ve got no idea.

“But my dear wife, she said to me ‘You are going to do this. It’s mind over matter.’ She nursed me back to health. She really is a great girl.”
