A popular sports media personality has teed off on ESPN’s Adam Schefter following the latter’s controversial social media post and article about Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Last week, Adam Schefter reported that the NFL “is expected to expand” replay assist in the offseason for “plays that could include the quarterback slide” related to roughing the passer penalties.
The veteran NFL insider, however, drew criticism for referencing Patrick Mahomes at the start of his X/Twitter post:
Take a quick scroll through the replies to Schefter’s X post, and you’ll see just how many fans were enraged over the mentioning of Mahomes’ name.
On the latest edition of his “What’s Wright? With Nick Wright” show, Nick Wright of Fox Sports 1 ripped on Adam Schefter for what he called “terrible journalism.” The 40-year-old Wright is a well-known Kansas Chiefs superfan:
“I was enraged by this for a number of reasons. But here’s the primary one. That’s terrible, terrible journalism to write that article…
’Relief is on the way’, which lends real credibility to the ‘It’s rigged’ stuff. Real credibility. The morning of conference championship games from the single biggest microphone in all of sports social media – Adam Schefter’s Twitter account.”

Wright brought up the controversial calls against the Houston Texans for hits on Patrick Mahomes in the Divisional Round. Wright noted that replay review upheld Will Anderson Jr.’s roughing the passer penalty on Mahomes.
Countless football fans have accused the NFL and its officials of siding with Mahomes and the Chiefs during their dynastic run, due largely to the fact they’ve greatly benefited from a long list of controversial calls.
Still, it was out of character for a top insider like Schefter to frame his X/Twitter post and subsequent article about expanding replay assist around Mahomes like that.
Adam Schefter Stands By What He Said
Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier this week, Schefter addressed the criticism he received for that post about Mahomes and the Chiefs. The longtime ESPN insider said he was presenting “facts” while admitting he was “surprised that people are so offended with factual information.”
The Chiefs will face Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Given how often Kansas City has benefited from officiating mistakes this season, fans will certainly pay close attention to the refs’ performance.
