Prince Harry makes SHOCKING charity move as Diana funds are redirected from Sentebale
Prince Harry has made a significant change to the way money connected to his late mother Princess Diana’s legacy is distributed, redirecting his share of the proceeds away from Sentebale and towards a conservation charity in Botswana.
The Duke of Sussex co-founded Sentebale in 2006 in memory of Diana, with the organisation originally established to support vulnerable children and young people affected by HIV and poverty in southern Africa.
However, following his bitter fallout with the charity in 2025, Harry has now chosen a different organisation to receive his share of the annual proceeds linked to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.
According to reports, the money has been redirected to Elephants Without Borders, a Botswana-based organisation dedicated to protecting wildlife.
The move represents another major development in Harry’s increasingly complicated relationship with Sentebale.
Harry’s dramatic split from Sentebale
Harry stepped down as patron of Sentebale in 2025 following an explosive dispute with its board chair, Sophie Chandauka.
The disagreement ultimately resulted in Harry and other trustees leaving their positions.
The charity subsequently became involved in a legal dispute after filing a defamation lawsuit against Harry over allegations surrounding his public criticism and the events that led to his departure. Harry rejected the allegations.
Since then, attention has remained firmly focused on the charity that Harry helped establish nearly two decades ago.
The latest decision means that funds associated with Diana’s legacy will now support a very different cause.
The touching connection to Archie and Lilibet
The new beneficiary has a particularly personal connection to Harry and Meghan.
The money was used by Elephants Without Borders to place satellite-tracking collars on two elephants in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
In a touching tribute to the Sussex family, the elephants were named Archie and Lili, after Harry and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The two children were also reportedly involved in choosing the colours of the collars, with Archie selecting blue and Lilibet choosing purple.
The conservation project gives the move an especially personal dimension for Harry, who has long spoken about his connection to Africa.
A relationship stretching back decades
Harry is understood to have known Elephants Without Borders founder Dr Mike Chase for more than 20 years.
The organisation has also crossed paths with Harry and Meghan during their relationship.
Meghan visited Botswana with Harry in 2017, during the early stages of their romance.
The Duchess also previously donated her voiceover fee from Disney’s Elephant documentary to the organisation.
That history makes the decision to redirect the Diana-linked funds to Elephants Without Borders particularly significant.
What happens to Diana’s legacy funds?
The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund officially closed in 2012, but some remaining assets and legacy donations continue to be administered through the Royal Foundation.
The arrangement has another important royal connection.
The Royal Foundation is headed by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.
Following Harry and William’s decision to separate their charitable activities in 2020, the brothers have reportedly continued to divide certain proceeds equally, with each choosing where his respective share should go.
Harry’s latest decision therefore highlights not only his continuing connection to his mother’s charitable legacy, but also the very different causes he now chooses to support.
For Harry, the decision appears to mark a new chapter.
Sentebale was founded as one of the most important charitable projects of his life, inspired directly by Diana’s humanitarian work.
Yet after the dramatic breakdown in his relationship with the organisation, his focus has now shifted elsewhere.
And by choosing a conservation project in Botswana — a country that has played such a significant role in his personal life — Harry has ensured that his mother’s legacy continues to support a cause deeply connected to his own experiences in Africa.
