BREAKING NEWS: Meghan and Harry just proved how arrogant they are – latest demand is beyond preposterous
Harry and Meghan haven’t been back in Britain for five minutes but already they’ve started a public spat with the King over their royal status or – more accurately – their lack of it. The King quite sensibly this week issued a statement reiterating the fact that the couple were not members of The Firm and weren’t to be treated as such. He also made clear that the terms of the 2020 Megxit agreement still very much stand and the couple are to be treated not as royals but as “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests”.
Nothing wrong with any of that you might think as it’s exactly what Harry and Meghan said they wanted when they flounced out of this country six years ago claiming Britain was a racist cesspit they could no longer stomach. Back then they said they needed space to be their own people with their own private lives. Yet here they are back in Britain desperately trying to latch onto the coat tails of the family they’ve spent years trashing.
Back then they made clear they wanted to be private citizens free to live independent lives. Which is almost exactly what Charles said this week. Only that doesn’t suit the Sussex’s narrative anymore. And what gets the prize for sheer brassneck-ary is the couple saying the King should have run his statement by them first so that they could make a few tweaks and “clarify a few points”. Who the hell do these arrogant people think they are? The very idea our King should get approval from Harry and Meghan about something he wants to say to the British people is beyond preposterous.
These are the same people who over the past six years have treated him like seven shades of you know what on the global stage; who have branded the royal family racists; and who have stabbed them all in the back – AND front – several times over.
Team Sussex say Harry and Meghan were blindsided by the statement which they knew nothing about. What – do they mean blindsided in the same way the King was by their decision to return to Britain. Charles only found out about it a few days before the announcement that they were relocating to the UK.
And this entitled pair seem to forget the King doesn’t need their approval for anything he says about them. He can say what the hell he likes precisely because he’s the King. I suspect Charles felt compelled to say what he did because he’d already got wind of what the couple were planning to do now they’re back.
There had been boasts from Harry’s camp that the pair were delighted they’d manoeuvred the “half-in, half-out” deal they’d always wanted and so the King had no choice but to disabuse them of that notion. And to make clear to everyone else that the terms of the Sandringham Summit agreement remained exactly as they were in 2020. He also said that the couple’s HRH titles remain in abeyance. Translated – they can’t use them or monetise them.
But Harry and Meghan didn’t like that and so they issued their own childish retort saying they don’t want to be called “private citizens” but “ public figures”.
The fact is Harry and Meghan have come back to the UK because they’re a busted flush in the States. All the big money contracts have dried up, the Hollywood elite have discarded them and they’ve been unable to make a success of any of the businesses they’ve turned their hand to. Their only value is, and always has been, their royal status. But even the sheen of that has worn off in recent years as they have no more secrets to sell and they’ve been so far away from the royal mothership for so long that even their so-called royal status now has little value. And so they’ve come back to Britain to reestablish it.
Charles has been decent enough to give them an audience but it’s clear he doesn’t trust either of them. If he did, he’d never have had to make that statement public. He’d have had a quiet word with them and said there was no way back into The Firm. But he chose not to do that because he knows from past experience that “recollections may vary” about certain conversations and that Harry and Meghan could very easily choose to misinterpret or ignore what had been said to them.
So, to avoid any confusion he made their status clear – and he made it public. And their response has been predictably childish. Instead of realising they have many bridges to build before they can be trusted again, instead of just saying graciously “We will respect the King’s wishes”, they chose instead to take him on in public, stroppily saying they want to be called public figures, NOT private citizens. Don’t they get it? No one cares what they want any more. They have no power here and no clout. In terms of The Firm they are nothing and whatever demands they make as the private couple they are will not be heeded – especially not by our long-suffering King.
Harry and Meghan need to understand that the British public are over them. After years of slagging off the royal family, people have seen them for what they are – arrogant, entitled, demanding, tone deaf and utterly selfish. Of course, the problem is they’ve come back here believing they’re doing us all a favour and stories from inside the Sussex camp suggest they still want apologies from the royals for the terrible way they’ve been treated. And so, the King’s slap-down statement will inflame their sense of victimhood even more. But what that statement has done is put this egotistical pair very firmly in their place – and not before time.
The King and the rest of the royals have been way too indulgent of their appalling behaviour these last six years – maybe because they were an ocean away. But now they’re back here and the fear is they will try to inflict damage on the monarchy which is why The Firm has launched its own rearguard action. Harry and Meghan really need to tread carefully now. Their American Dream is dead and coming back here is their only option to make money. So, they need to preserve what little value, what little status, they have left by not getting up the noses of the King or his family.
Charles has very decently put a conciliatory hand out to his son and Meghan but he knows that if he gives too much – they’ll bite that hand right off. He knows full well this pair aren’t back in the UK because they want to make amends, they’re back because they need to make money and to do that, they need to reestablish their royal status.
Maybe they’d hoped to do that with a few pics with the King and Queen, by attending a few royal functions, by getting involved with charities that have royal connections. And of course the biggest prize for Harry would be if he could get the King to the Invictus Games. Imagine pictures of them side by side flying around the world with the caption: “All is forgiven.”
It would be ‘kerching’ for the Sussexs. But, of course, all isn’t forgiven and, judging by Harry and Meghan’s antics this week, it won’t be any time soon. The good news is that the King’s statement this week made it crystal clear that things are going to be done HIS way from now on and HE’S going to control the narrative to prevent any more damage to his beloved Monarchy. And I for one am cheering him from the rafters for it.
