Broadcaster Piers Morgan has revealed Earl Spencer has issued him an apology. However, the Uncensored star insists he is following through with his threatened legal action against the younger brother of Princess Diana. Taking to X on Tuesday, September 22, he announced: “BREAKING NEWS Earl Spencer has apologised to me for his defamatory lies published in his new book, Swan Song, published today. But I am pursuing legal action against him and his publisher, Penguin, to have the lies removed and damages paid to the King’s Trust.”
Piers was criticised in the book, which resulted in him planning to sue. In the tome, which was released on Tuesday, September 22, Spencer accuses Piers of publishing photographs of Diana wearing a leotard in the gym in the Sunday Mirror four years before her death. Piers insists this is a lie, stating that he wasn’t even working for that publication at the time.
Spencer also wrote that he called tabloid editors to uninvite them from Diana’s funeral. He recalled: “The only one who sounded surly, as opposed to merely confused or embarrassed, was Piers Morgan of the Mirror, who snarled with annoyance before he hung up.”
Spencer said this is probably because Piers felt “guilt” over the photographs published in the Sunday Mirror.
Morgan slammed the accusations, speaking on his Piers Morgan Uncensored show. He said: “Well, this is all pretty extraordinary stuff, isn’t it? And very damning, particularly about me. I come across in the most despicable manner imaginable.
“There’s just one problem. It’s all b******t and very, very easy b******t for me to prove it. The photographs, which he says I published, were printed by the Sunday Mirror on November 7, 1993. I joined the Daily Mirror in October in 1995.

“In fact, at the time of the gym pictures, I was doing a showbiz column on the Mirror’s arch-rival, The Sun. About as far removed from responsibility for the Mirror scoop as I could possibly have been.
“My question though is this, if Earl Spencer can be so incredibly, defamatorially wrong about such basic facts involving me, well, why should we believe anything else he puts in this book?” he pondered
He added: “In the meantime, Earl Spencer, you’ll be hearing, and your publishers, from my lawyers. Because I would like the complete lie that you’ve published about me, and those photographs, to be removed from your book.
“And I would like a donation to be made to the King’s Trust for the damage that you’ve caused with your lie, after all. To quote somebody, you can’t dish it out without getting it in return, right?”
