Tess Daly has broken her silence on the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing – and the first since she and co-star Claudia Winkleman quit the show last year. Tess, who presented the BBC dance competition for more than two decades, took to social media last night (September 19) to share her thoughts on the three new presenters.
Johannes Radebe, Emma Willis and Josh Widdecombe took the reins of the show last night in what constituted a major shake-up, with several of the professional dancers axed from the programme and a new pairing format introduced to match celebrities with their partners.
Taking to her Instagram story, she shared a snap of the celebrities and pros gathered round for their first group dance, writing: “@BBCStrictly class of 26!
“So excited for tonight! And to finally be able to watch Strictly in flat shoes!”
It comes as Tess’s “real” reason for quitting Strictly came to light, as she decided she wanted her weekends for herself and her two daughters.

She said on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast: “I’m not someone who goes for a day to the spa. I’m thinking, what do my kids need me to do today? Do you know what I mean?”.
“So I’m always making up for that. If I’ve worked for a day or two, then I’m like, now this time I need to do more for them because I was absent here.
“So I’m always trying to make up for that. So if I remove them from that picture… I don’t know. I mean, it could be quite lovely, it could be really great. I could be on weekend breaks with my girlfriends to Ibiza. How about that? I might be back dancing on podiums.”
