Power FC, established in partnership with the MLS’ D.C. United, announced the news on Tuesday afternoon.
“Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking,” D.C. United CEO and co-chairman Jason Levien said in a statement.
“As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally while inspiring the next generation of female athletes.
“We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner.”

Reacting to the announcement on social media, Reese, 22, said she was “grateful and blessed” for the opportunity to join the Power FC ownership.
The No. 7 overall WNBA pick added it’s always been her desire to invest in a local sports team as a Maryland native.
“I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” the Sky’s 6-foot-3 forward said, per the statement.
“We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community.”
WNBA needs to change draft rules to allow young stars into the league sooner
Ex-United defender and assistant coach Frederic Brillant has been appointed as the first Power FC head coach.

Reese has had a promising start to her rookie WNBA season.
The ex-Louisiana State University star averaged 18.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting 49.8% from the field in her first two games.
Chicago went 1-1 to open the campaign, facing the Dallas Stars in both matchups.
Reese will soon face former college basketball rival Caitlin Clark when the Sky take on the Indiana Fever on the road on June 2.
How the WNBA works
THE 2024 WNBA season features 12 teams with the regular-season running from May 14 to September 9.
Each team plays 40 regular-season games – four against five teams from the same conference and two teams from the other conference, and three games against the remaining four teams.
The top eight teams in the league standings qualify for the playoffs – regardless of what conference they’re in.
The playoffs will use a best-of-three format in the first round while the semifinals and WNBA Finals are best of five.
This season also includes a month-long break for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Las Vegas Aces are defending back-to-back WNBA champions.
ESPN is set to broadcast the showdown between the two star WNBA rookies.
Many thought that Clark and Reese disliked each other after heated encounters during back-to-back NCAA Tournament runs.
But the Sky star has explained they are just two very competitive athletes.
“I don’t think people realize it’s not personal,” Reese said in March.
“Once we get out between those lines, if I see you walking down the street, it’s like, ‘Hey, girl, what’s up? Let’s hang out.’
