A Place in the Sun couple spot major issue minutes into property search
Yorkshire couple Liz and Tony viewed several Mallorca properties on A Place in the Sun but left without finding their dream Spanish holiday home

A couple on A Place In The Sun have pledged to continue their search for their ideal property in Mallorca after turning down multiple options.
In a repeat episode airing today, retirees Liz and Tony were seeking to secure a holiday home on the stunning island, with a budget of approximately £190,000 with “wiggle room” to £220,000.
Former solicitor Liz and retired government officer Tony reside in Yorkshire after meeting nearly 40 years ago.
They wed six months after meeting, with Tony describing it as a “whirlwind romance”. Following numerous visits to Mallorca, the pair had been keen to purchase there.
“There are lovely places, nice coastal resorts, people are generally friendly,” Tony said. He added, “I’ve always had a wish to have a property overseas; it’s always been a dream of mine to do that,” reports Yorkshire Live.

Nevertheless, despite discovering one property with “breathtaking” views and another considerably beneath their budget, the couple were left disheartened by the search.
Expert Jean Johannson took them to various properties across the island, but after some time to consider their options, Liz and Tony decided none suited their preferences.
The last property they saw, which was slightly over their budget at £229,060, was a three-bedroom apartment on the 10th floor of a building, which Jean described as “amazing”.
“You have saved the best till last,” Liz said; however, Jean later admitted her clients seemed “underwhelmed”, and not long later, Liz highlighted one “issue” with the apartment directly overlooking a hotel, and Tony wasn’t convinced by the location.
“I don’t want to rule it out at this stage, but I need some time to think about it,” he said.

The next day, Jean admitted, “The pressure was on,” as three properties she had shown Liz and Tony had become unavailable to them by the time they saw the last one.
Despite taking their time to deliberate, the couple wasn’t convinced by the options.
Jean said: “What a journey we have been on, I left you yesterday, in good spirits way up there with that great 10th floor apartment. You’ve had a night to sleep on it, have you come to any decisions?”
Liz replied: “That apartment was everything we asked for, it has the spacious lounge, lovely kitchen, three bedrooms which was more than we asked for, a nice balcony and some views.”
Tony then shared: “Unfortunately, from a modern aspect, it was great, but the location was the issue for me, Jean.”
Jean replied: “What a shame, so the property was perfect, but the location didn’t quite work for you.”

The couple also weren’t keen on other properties Jean had shown them, with Liz admitting: “It’s certainly made us reconsider the location that we wanted, but I think the issues that we had with the properties in Soller are still too big for us to overcome.
“But I think it’s really helped us identify where we want to be.”
Tony added: “The one thing for me is it’s made me more determined, opened my eyes in terms of what’s available, what we can afford.”
He went on: “One of the things we have considered is that we probably may need to increase our budget.”
Jean replied: “I think that’s a great idea because it has been a challenge. That budget in this market in Mallorca right now. But if I’ve helped you with what areas you want to live in and that maybe adding a bit more money will get you exactly what you want, then my job is done.”
Tony added: “It’s been a fantastic learning experience and a great opportunity,” with Liz saying: “We just didn’t find the right property, but we will.”
