BREAKING: BBC Star Rushed to Hospital for Eye Surgery After Medical Team Fought to Save Her Eye.

A beloved BBC presenter was rushed to the hospital for major eye surgery. On Tuesday (July 21), broadcaster Lucy Owen took to Instagram to share a snap from her hospital bed, smiling as she rocked a new makeshift eyepatch. The BBC Wales star was seen with a cotton pad over her left eye, which was protected with a plastic shield and secured with scotch tape.
She captioned the lengthy post detailing her gruelling health journey, which all began last year when she was rushed to the hospital after suffering from unexpected visual impairment. The 54-year-old journalist penned: “All done. Yet another huge thank you to the NHS for the wonderful care I’ve had.”

She gushed: “Mr Williams and his team saved my sight just over a year ago, and now they’re helping improve it. So very grateful always. A bit of time to recover, then back on your telly next week. Limited makeup is allowed, so you may want to go sound-only! [cry-laughing emoji].”
It comes after the presenter issued an apology live on air when she was forced to hand over the news bulletin to her co-star. In May, the BBC Wales Today anchor was reading the headlines during the show when she was overcome with a coughing fit.
She was forced to quickly hand over to weather presenter Derek Brockway, who was waiting in the wings. Viewers watched with concern as Lucy began coughing while reading a bulletin about Wrexham football club.

As she struggled to get her words out, she reached for a glass of water on her desk. She then spluttered out: “Excuse me, let’s get the weather forecast now, here’s Derek.” The journalist later took to Instagram to update her loyal legion of fans on the awkward moment.

The TV favourite penned: “This has only happened to me once before, and it’s an awful feeling. I really didn’t think I was going to get to the end of the story. Fine during rehearsal, but it just came out of the blue. If you were watching huge apologies, at least you got most of your news croak and cough-free.”
Lucy, who began her career at BBC Radio Wales as a researcher and is married to Welsh presenter Rhodri Owen, later joined the then-HTV Wales in 1995 as a newsreader and went on to host Wales Tonight for the channel. She went on to present on the now-defunct ITV News Channel and was also seen anchoring the main ITV News.
In 2007, she switched to the BBC and started presenting BBC Wales Today and has been a familiar face there ever since. She has also hosted BBC Wales’ consumer show, X Ray.
