BREAKING NEWS: Mike Tindall makes first appearance with Zara Tindall after devastating tragedy
Mike Tindall has made his first public appearance since announcing the death of his father, Phil Tindall, stepping out alongside wife Zara Tindall at the Laver Cup in London.
The former England rugby captain, 47, was seen smiling for photographs in the VIP stands on Friday, September 25, just days after revealing that his father had died aged 80 following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Zara, the daughter of Princess Anne, remained by her husband’s side as the couple met tennis legend Roger Federer and mingled with players including Learner Tien, Francisco Cerundolo and Casper Ruud.
Mike Steps Out Days After Family Loss
According to Hello!, Mike appeared composed during the sporting event as he posed for photographs with Zara and several tennis stars.
For the occasion, he wore a white shirt with a navy blazer and off-white trousers.
Zara opted for a blue satin shirt paired with a navy pinstripe suit.
The couple have been regular supporters of the Laver Cup for years and are known to be friendly with Federer, who co-founded the tournament.
They have also previously attended events connected to the Swiss tennis great, including the London screening of his documentary Federer: Twelve Final Days.
Their latest appearance came during an especially difficult week for the Tindall family.
Mike Revealed Father Phil Had Died ‘Last Week’
Mike confirmed his father’s death during the Wednesday, September 23 episode of The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast.
“Unfortunately, my dad passed away last week,” he said.
Phil had lived with Parkinson’s disease for many years.
Mike also took time during the podcast to thank Otley Rugby Club in West Yorkshire, where his father had once played and served as captain.
“Big shout-out to Otley Rugby Club,” Mike said.
“They played Chester on the weekend, and they did a minute’s silence to my dad, who was captain in ’72, ’73.”
Mike revealed that someone had recorded the tribute and sent it to him so he could watch it.
He added that the club had also included a tribute to Phil in its match programme.
“That little moment, I got to watch it,” Mike said.
“Someone recorded it, sent it to me, and then they wrote a little thing in the program as well, which I read.”
He finished by thanking the club for honouring his father.
Phil Battled Parkinson’s for Years
Mike had spoken openly in the past about the impact Parkinson’s disease had on Phil’s health.
In a 2020 interview with the Daily Mail, he revealed that his father had already been living with the condition for 17 years.
“My dad has had Parkinson’s for the past 17 years,” Mike said at the time.
“Over the last few years, I’ve really seen him deteriorate.”
Earlier this year, Mike gave another update on Phil’s condition, admitting that his father was struggling.
In May 2026, he said Phil was “not doing great at the moment” and described Parkinson’s as “brutal”, saying there was “no let-up” in how the disease affects the body and changes people.
Zara Remains by Mike’s Side
Friday’s Laver Cup appearance marked Mike and Zara’s first public outing together since the family loss.
Although Mike did not address his father’s death during the event, he appeared to be leaning on one of the things that has always played a major role in his life — sport.
With Zara beside him and familiar faces around them, the appearance showed the former rugby star returning to public life only days after sharing one of the most painful updates of his life.
