Carol Vorderman faced backlash online after likening Reform UK leader Nigel Farage to a “snake oil” salesman. On Wednesday (July 8), the Countdown icon took to social media with a tirade about the politician’s move after he resigned from the British Parliament on Tuesday (July 7). This came after intense scrutiny of Farage’s financial arrangements, in which he announced he is quitting as the MP for Clacton. However, he will now stand as a candidate in the Clacton by-election he has triggered. While this has sparked scrutiny from his political rivals and British voters, Carol also weighed in on the backlash with a rant.

The presenter mocked: “So, Nigel Farage has just done this big announcement about how he’s stepping down as MP in Clacton to ‘let the people decide’ whether he should be an MP or not. Basically, he’s going to stand in Clacton and force a by-election hoping against hope that the good people of Clacton will vote him in again.”

Carol continued: “Which of course is not a certainty now that Restore is picking up votes. Anyway, I’ve just wasted 15 minutes of my life listening to the bloke.

“I mean, I have never heard such snake oil twisting of facts as Farage.” She raged: “He is grubby, he is divisive, he’s a grifter, he’s a liar, he’s a spinner, and all of his really is to basically avoid the Parliamentary Standards Committee, which he calls the establishment.

“Which, frankly, in my opinion, isn’t harsh enough and wasn’t harsh enough on a number of MPs previously. Anyone who falls for the snake oil words of Farage really needs to give their head a wobble.

After Carol admitted: “I did waste 15 minutes of my life because I was hoping he’d just stand down and move to America,” she was met with criticism as one viewer commented: “Old Carol is a nasty bully; she would do well in the Green Party.”

Another wrote: “That’s up to the people of Clacton, show some respect.”

“I was 100% against Farage, now that this silly bint is on the case, it’s dropped to 94%,” raged a third viewer.

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “But if he IS re-elected, the investigation, currently paused, restarts; he doesn’t walk away from it while still an MP and has to declare all other gifts etc 12 months before THIS election.”

Carol has never been quiet about her distaste for the politician, having previously issued a scathing takedown of his seemingly close friendship with US leader Donald Trump.

This came after Farage attended an event at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort earlier this year, celebrating US Military Veterans just months before Trump’s vile slur insulting British troops who served in Afghanistan.

To which the presenter re-shared a photo of Farage and Trump together, and questioned: “How come every Right-Wing solution to poverty, hunger, health and employment involves giving rich people more money?”
